Bulldogs fall short after good effort for state title
Hokes Bluff took the opener 5-1 behind the pitching of junior Tyler Stovall. Washington County won the second game 11-8 to forcing game three, which Hokes Bluff won 9-1. In game one, Stovall lived up to his billing. The southpaw consistently threw in the low 90s and kept the Bulldog hitters off-balance with his curveball on his way to striking out 16. Kyle Dees singled with two outs and Drake Warr followed him with an oppositefield double that the left-fielder could not field cleanly allowing Dees to score. The Bulldogs could not muster any more runs and Hokes Bluff added an insurance run in the sixth for the 5-1 victory. In game two with the score tied 8-8 in the sixth, Tyler Dykes got a two-RBI single to bring in Kyle Dees and Drake Warr that proved to be the game winning hit. Garrett Beech scored on Zac Turner's fielder'schoice to give the Dawgs an 11- 8 lead. Kyle Pennington walked the first two batters he faced in the seventh but then retired the next three batters in order to pick up the win. Dykes led Washington County at the plate with a 3-4 performance and five RBIs. In the deciding game three Washington County struck first. Tyler Dykes had a RBI single in the first to give the Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead. Hokes Bluff tied it in the second and took control of the game with five in the third on their way to the 9-1 victory.
