Reeves - Skipper united in marriage
Officiating the 5:30 p.m. double ring ceremony was the Rev. Jim Dufriend. Parents of the couple are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Carmichael Skipper, John Calvin Reeves Sr., all of Jackson and the late Mary Angela Barkhaus Reeves. Leila Holley sang "Ave Maria" by Franz Schubert during the seating of the grandparents and "Thanks Be To Thee" by Handel for seating the bride's mother. The attendants processional was to "Canon in D" by Pachelbel and music accompaniment was by Colette Chivers, organist. Leila Holley also sang "The Lord's Prayer" during the blessing of the marriage. Reader was Blake Reeves, brother of the groom of Jackson. A table was placed at the steps of the church which held the bride's book, attended by Katie Skipper of Grove Hill and Elizabeth Skipper of Jackson, both cousins of the bride. The front doors of the church were decorated with arrangements of fresh cut flowers which included blue delphiniums, larkspur, pink and yellow roses, white poms and hydrangea. Boston ferns banked the altar. A large arrangement of white stargazer lilies, hydrangea, roses, poms and calla lilies accented with fresh greenery was placed in the narthex of the church in memory of the couple's grandparents, Robertson C. Hesse, George W. Skipper Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. N.L. Reeves. A candle, lit in memory of the groom's mother, was accented with fresh springri and fern. The bride, escorted by her father, entered to the "Bridal Chorus" by Wagner. She wore a white satin gown embroidered with seed pearls and crystals. The halter-style fitted bodice laced up the back and the train bustled in the back. The bride's veil of white tulle accented with seed pearls was attached to a tiara. She carried a bouquet of calla lilies hand-tied with white satin ribbon. Serving as maid of honor was Danielle Watson of Foley. Attending the bride were Amanda Moore of Atlanta, Ga., Amy Ridgeway of Tuscaloosa, Andrea Stewart of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Brooke Slayton and Tessa Reeves, sister-in-law of the groom, both of Jackson, Emily Chastain of Gulf Shores, Kendra Crews of New Orleans, La. and Tiffani Dunagan, sister of the groom of Leroy. The bridesmaids wore two-piece dresses in the bride's chosen color of tropical blue. They carried bouquets of white calla lilies. Flower girls were Mary Alice Dunagan, niece of the groom of Leroy and Virginia Ann Harrigan of Monroeville. They wore white satin dresses with tulle overlays accented with tropical blue sashes, halos made of baby's breath and carried baskets of rose petals. Serving as best man was Blake Reeves, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Charles Wilson of Mobile, Chris Blake of Rockport, Ind., David Skipper of Grove Hill, Grant Dunagan and Randall Pace, both of Leroy, Jonathan Skipper, brother of the bride, and Paul Criswell, both of Jackson and Thomas Brandon of Fort Payne. Ring bearer was Richard Skipper II of Jackson. The recessional for the bride and groom was to the "Wedding March" by Mendelssohn. Directing the wedding was Edna Stewart of Jackson. Reception A reception was conducted at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House. Lanterns were placed along the entrance pathway and guests entered through a wrought iron arbor decorated with fresh springri, pastel yellow and pink roses and stargazer lilies. Ferns were hung throughout the patio area. Tables with white linen cloths were situated throughout the porch and reception area. Mixed fresh cut flowers placed in antique urns were centered on guests' tables. An arrangement of flowers in the bride's chosen colors was placed in a two-tiered silver candelabrum on a serpentine table. Ficus trees accented with tiny white lights and ferns were placed in the dining area. An arrangement of blue delphinium, larkspur, stargazer lilies, pastel poms and greenery was placed on the mantel. Dining tables held a variety of finger foods. Marinated shrimp, crab cakes and gumbo along with a potato bar with all the trimmings were also situated in the dining area. Prime rib was served from a carving station and a wet bar was provided for the guests. The bride's cake, decorated with buttercream icing and a fondant ribbon trimming, was placed on a silver plateau and accented with fresh flowers. The groom's chocolate cake in the shape of golf clubs held a red "A" monogram representing the University of Alabama. Fresh strawberries dipped in chocolate, boiled peanuts and coffee punch were served. The University of Alabama Alpha Delta Pi sorority sisters of the bride performed a special candlelight ceremony. They sang a traditional song, "When God Gave The Wise Men Their Wisdom" during the ceremony. The bride and groom danced to the song, "When God Made You He Must Have Been Thinking of Me". The bride and her father danced to "My Girl". "One", a special song dedicated by country western singer Jett Williams, sorority sister of the bride's mother, was played. The couple honeymooned at the Hotel Magdeline in Foley. They are residing in Foley and are planning a trip to Italy and Greece later in the summer. Dinner for Family and Friends Adinner for out-of town family and friends was held on Thursday, April 19 at Lake Joe Joe, the home of Helen and Joe Skipper. Special guests attending were Elizabeth Hesse of Severna Park, Md. and Elizabeth Skipper of Millers Ferry, both grandmothers of the bride, Judy Skipper of Millers Ferry, aunt of the bride, Peggy Lee and Skip Bullen, Ginger and Doug Miller and Alan Jones, all cousins of the bride of Annapolis, Md., Rita Barkhaus, grandmother of the groom of Utica, Ky., Janet and Wyatt Gray of Destin, Fla., Amy Ridgeway and Andrea Stewart, bridesmaids and Janet and Bob Windsor of Defuniak Springs, Fla., cousins of the bride. Hostesses for the event were Kim Bailey, Janelle Peavy, Renee Williams, Judy Boykin, Lorraine and Gary Craft, Judy Edge and Rita Batley, all of Jackson. Dinner included chicken spaghetti, seven-layer salad, homemade bread, broccoli salad, whipping cream pound cake and chocolate pound cake. Helen and Joe Skipper presented gift bags to all the guests. Rehearsal Dinner Arehearsal dinner was conducted at Headquarters in Jackson hosted by the groom's family. Special guests attending were parents and grandparents of the couple, Tiffani Reeves Dunagan, Blake Reeves, Jonathan Skipper, Peggy Lee and Skip Bullen, Danna and Bruce Jones, Ginger and Doug Miller, Alan Jones, Judy Skipper, Melinda and Lynn Corder, Ginger and Hugh Underwood, Ann and Larry Dalgo of Gulf Shores, Lori and Dan Carmichael from Birmingham, France and Trey Sparks of Fairhope, Elizabeth and David Harrell of Auburn, Janet and Bob Windsor, Michelle and Patrick Harrigan of Monroeville, Jessica and Ben Parker of Ashburn, Ga., and Catherine Bounds of Birmingham. Joe Skipper and John Reeves Sr. made toasts to the couple. A roasted pig, Boston butt, roasted chicken, Carolina bean casserole, twice-baked potatoes, pecan pie and bread pudding were served. A Hawaiian theme was used throughout the home. The main table held an arrangement of white stargazer lilies, roses and hydrangea, Queen Anne's lace and fresh greenery. Wreaths of blue delphiniums and white larkspur were placed on entrance doors. White candles placed in hurricane globes were placed on the center of each table. The bride and groom chose this time to present gifts to members of their wedding party. Wedding Day Luncheon Awedding day lunch for out-oftown guests was hosted at the First United Methodist Church in Jackson on April 21 from 10:30 a.m. until noon. Guests were served chicken salad, fruit and pound cake. Co-hostesses were members of Helen Skipper's bridge club, which included Laine Bolen, Carolyn Carpenter, Glenda Donald, Karen Bumpers, Bridget Weaver, Libby Heritage, Kay Garris, Diane Jones, Kathy Brown and Bobbie Jean Skinner. Bridal Luncheon A bridal luncheon was at the home of Virginia Harrigan in Grove Hill on Friday, April 20. Hostesses for the event were Mrs. Michael Furr, Mrs. Patrick Harrigan, Mrs. George Skipper Jr., Mrs. Gray Skipper, Mrs. Dwight Harrigan, Mrs. Ben Parker, Mrs. George Skipper III and Ms. Judy Skipper. Miss Skipper chose this time to present gifts to her attendants, flower girls and bride's book attendants. Special guests attending were the grandmothers of the couple, Peggy Lee Bullen, Danna Jones, Ginger Miller, and Lorie and Maggie Carmichael, all cousins of the bride. The home was decorated with fresh cut arrangements of flowers. Guests entered through a rose arbor adorned with moss and baskets filled with fresh spring flowers. Tables with white linen cloths were placed in the garden area. White hydrangea in crystal rose bowls were centered on each table along with engagement ring key chains given as party favors. The bride's table held the mother of the bride's wedding shoes, which were filled with sweetheart white roses and hydrangea.
An antique mirrored box was placed on the bride's table and guests were invited to write a blessing for the bride and groom.
