Believing that all is 'Right as Red on a Rose' Red on a rose is just "right". When you think of roses you think of red ones, or at least I do. For the last few months Jackson has been really moving ahead some would say. Walgreens, maybe a Huddle House, Waffle House and even a truck depot for 18-wheelers. Everyone is really excited about the steel mill coming to Calvert. All those things seem to be the "right" thing for Jackson. But all of this is only just a little of what was laid on my heart, while listening to the song. Several weeks ago I was going over some things with Darrel Powell on a benefit for Cole Hicks. He took me out back to see some trucks he had bought. There were three semis that had belonged to Allen Jackson and of course were red. Cole's father works for Darrel and this is where my story really begins. Darrel has been a rock for the Hicks family. He has not called to ask Robert when he is coming back, but rather if there is anything else he could do for the family. New Era to my knowledge has been just as good to Tiffany. Those things the employers have done are "right", right as red on a rose. Being a "want to be" high school football coach, I got to go to a lot of towns all over Alabama and Europe. Most towns show some sort of support for some sort of cause. Yellow ribbons to bring our soldiers home safely, ect. That support is "right". In Europe I have seen demonstrations that would tear your heart out. The demonstrations to get the United States of America out of Europe. Helium balloons filled and latched to a cable and secured to the ground in hopes that one of our fighter jets would hit it and crash to the ground. Crosses put in fields by the hundreds to represent the people's deaths we may have caused while over there. This kind of support is wrong. Here in Jackson, Alabama, we or I should speak for myself, saw support that was right as red on a rose. I witnessed a small part of a tragedy that happened to a family whom I'm very close to. A tragedy that would have torn most families apart. A young 2 year old drowned and died, only to come back from God's house to do something here. A plan that God had set in place since the beginning of time. Young Cole has touched so many lives that I wouldn't be afraid to say you could never count the people he has touched. Right as red on a rose! This caused a community to come together and support a family that most didn't know. Strangers that I work with, here on construction jobs, gave to this family, yet they live several hundreds of miles away. They didn't ask for anything in return, yet they were blessed. Some tried to make a bad thing out of this tragedy, but Robert and Tiffany would have nothing of this. They supported the others involved and opened up their house to them. People still tried to find wrong in that gesture. This was not the support they needed. People driving through Jackson have to wonder if we had a storm come through nine months ago, because of all the blue ribbons on all the doors around town. The ribbons are for Cole, to show the support we had for him while we all waited for his return home. Support that is right as red on a rose. People talk about our hospital as a first aid station. Ask Robert and Tiffany what they think about our hospital and our local medical staff. The thing that is most obvious to me is that our town, Jackson, Alabama is a great place to be. We have the best people in the world if you need help. Our local power co-op is the first to leave here and go help another community in need with Alabama Power right beside them. I talk with the Hicks family often and to their other two wonderful kids just about every other day. And they look at this tragedy in a way that only a Christian family could. They look at their young son as a messenger from God who has already started spreading the Word in his own way. As to what happened to Baby Cole, I think it is something that will be seen later in life as a God-send because of the people he has touched already and the ones he will touch later. God sent him back for a purpose.
As the people he touched turn to God, as they have already started doing, I have to believe all of what happened as being "Right As Red On A Rose!"
