Mark Your Calendar June 8 block party The Pine City Park Committee is presenting a block party on Friday, June 8, 5:30-8 p.m. in downtown Jackson. It will be a night out for the entire family with food, games and entertainment for both children and adults. All proceeds benefit the Pine City Park Project. CCHS Class of 1978 to meet The Clarke County High School Class of 1978 will meet on June 1 at the Jackson Steakhouse to discuss plans for a 30th class reunion. CCHS reunion Class of 1962 The CCHS Class of 1962 will have a class reunion, June 9, 2 p.m. at Scotch Station Park, Asbury Road, Whatley. All class members and teachers are invited to attend. Williams to speak at Historical Society The Clarke County Historical Society will meet on May 27, 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. The speaker will be Ellen Williams, retired schoolteacher of Leroy. Williams has edited and published Prey For Us All, a collection of war letters of Benjamin Franklin Porter. Porter was 17 years old when he joined the Confederate Army in St. Stephens in 1861. The letters tell of his surviving four years in the army, including being wounded twice and confinement in a Union prison. Copies of the book will be available for sale. The public is invited. JHS Class of 1957 reunion June 9 The Jackson High School Class of 1957 reunion will be Saturday, June 9, 5 p.m. at H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House in Jackson. SWAIA meets May 29 The monthly meeting of the Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) will be held Tuesday, May 29, 7 p.m., at the Jackson Steakhouse. The focus will be observance of National Senior Citizens and Blood Pressure (Hypertension) Month. Speaker for this event will be Dr. Ozelle L. Hubert, PD, MHS, FACA who will discuss the Alabama Silver - Haired Legislature representative, Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission/Area Agency on Aging (ATRC/AAA), hypertension (high blood pressure), prescription drug assistance programs and medical and dental services available to individuals with no insurance or limited means.
