Chatom PD to turn trailer into mobile command center
The trailer was one of 4,000 obtained by the state earlier this year. They were used as temporary housing following the hurricanes in Mississippi and Louisiana. According to Washington County Emergency Management (EMA) Agency Director Stewart Jackson, Chatom Police Chief Duane Garrick visited Selma where the trailers are currently located, picked out the one he wanted and submitted an application for it. He was recently notified that his application had been approved and the trailer was purchased through the local EMA office utilizing a donation fund. The trailer will be equipped with communications equipment and a generator to make it self-sufficient. It will be used in case of natural and man-made disasters, manhunts, as well as for community events that require a police presence. "We will be able to establish communications during power outages and provide shelter and restroom facilities for officers," said Garrick. "The trailer will also be equipped with weather monitors during severe storms."
Garrick went on to thank Jackson for helping the department obtain the trailer. "This will certainly be an asset to our department," he added.
