Parade recognizes Accelerated Readers
Students of Joe M. Gillmore Elementary School and Jackson Intermediate School participating in the Accelerated Reader program celebrated their accomplishments with a parade through downtown Jackson, Friday, May 11. Gillmore students (bottom, right photo), grades K-2, passed 28,268 Accelerated Reader quizzes and in those books read 19,488,970 words this school year. JIS students (bottom, left photo) read a total of 125,628,493 words, earned 26,660.4 points and passed 36,209 tests. Each student in the schools are given an individual reading goal for each nine-week grading period. Those who meet their goals at the end of each nine weeks are rewarded.
