Nelson and Lee to be recognized Saturday at JHS' commencement

Derrick Nelson and William Alexander Lee will be recognized as Jackson High School's top two students during Saturday's commencement exercises, 10 a.m., at Legion Field/Simpkins Stadium.

Nelson, this year's valedictorian, is the son of Rhonda and Ricky Nelson. For obtaining the highest average, he has received the biology, algebra 2 with trig, health clinical spectrum, U.S. history 2, physics and precalculus awards.

Nelson's extracurricular activities include serving as a tutor, working with the relief efforts for hurricanes Ivan and Katrina in Jackson, a member of the National Honor Society, achieving the All "A" Honor Roll and serving as president of the Physics Club.

Nelson plans to attend the university of South Alabama this fall where he will major in electrical engineering.

Lee is this year's salutatorian. He is the son of Donna and Mark Lee.

Lee achieved the All "A" recognitioin as well as receiving the English Award in the 10th and 11th grades, the 10th grade citizenship award, the U.S. History award, is a member of the Physics Club and the National Honor Society. He also was on the Advanced Placement Track.

Lee's extracurricular activities include singing with the JHS Madrigals for three years, tutoring, member of Leadership Clarke County class of 2005-06, hurricane cleanup along the Gulf Coast and at home, Nicaragua mission trips, counseled at Camp Smile for disabled children in summer of 2004, leads praise and worship for youth group at First Baptist Church of Jackson, served as assistant coach and refereed for Upward Youth Soccer, volunteered at the CCARC Spring Jubilee, ministered to the homeless in New Orleans in the summer of 2005, HOBY representative 2005, took part in the Rural Science Scholars Program at the University of Alabama in the summer of 2006.
