Local student places in UM photo show Megan Edwards of Leroy was one of four students taking top honors at the University of Mobile's Spring Photography Show on May 1. She won first place for her work titled, "The Greatest Sacrifice." Students from adjunct instructor Denis Palmer's "Introduction to Photography," "Intermediate Photography" and "Hand Coloring Black and White Photos" classes displayed their work in Martin Hall. Other winners selected are: Tina Bryars of Bay Minette, best of show, "Forgotten"; Candace Arnette of Bay Minette, second place, "To the Other Side"; and Rebecca Capone of Mobile, third place, "One Step at a Time."
Judging the students' show was Dr. Randall Skalsky, retired professor of art history, history and Latin from the College of Charleston. Skalsky, who holds a doctorate in classical humanities, is best known for his interpretation of the "Portland Vase," an ancient cobalt blue glass vase decorated with figures. Winning photos were chosen according to composition, lighting and the judge's preference of photogra- phy as art.
