Lady Bears win first round against Georgiana Panthers

The Lady Bears of Leroy won their first round game against Georgiana this past week 8-0 and 11-6 as senior centerfielder Jennifer Overstreet pounded out eight hits on the day.

In game one, Meg Smith pitched six innings of shutout softball, allowing only three hits and striking out eight Panthers. Overstreet went 3-4 while Courtney Sullivan went 2-4 with two RBIs. Alex Vick also added a couple of hits. Blake Rowland, Megan Goldman, Kristian Atchison and Heather Ryland also added hits for the Lady Bears in game one.

In game two, Leroy sent Georgiana back to Butler County by winning 11-6. Overstreet went 5-5 with three RBIs. Sullivan and Vick also added two hits each in that contest as well. Jamie Jones, Rowland, Smith, Ryland and Atchison each added hits for Leroy.

Leroy (27-16) will now travel to Dothan on Saturday to take on the Houston Academy Radiers.

The winner of that game will travel to Lagoon Park in Montgomery to compete in the AHSAA state softball tournament. The winner of this game will play at 9 a.m. on Thursday morning.
