Bears advance to semi-finals with victory over G.W. Long

The Leroy Bears move into the semi-finals of the AHSAA state playoffs with the win over G.W. Long this past weekend in Skipperville.

In game one, Brandon Jones earned the win. He went six innings, giving up five runs on seven strikeouts and 10 hits in the 16-5 win.

Chris Weaver went 4-4 with three home runs, a double and seven RBIs. Brittian Schultz had two doubles, a home run and three RBIs. Matthew Watkins added a two-run home run in the second inning as well for Leroy. Taylor White, Steven Scoggins, Clint Moseley and Phillip Ervin all had two hits each for the Bears.

In the second game, Leroy defeated G.W. Long 10-5 at the hands of the pitcher Clint Moseley. Taylor White came in and pitched last inning and a third. Scoggins went 2-4 with a double while Brandon Jones went 3-4. Matthew Watlins added a triple and three RBIs. Schultz also added a two-run double in the sixth inning. Leroy started the game with a five run first, all coming with two outs.

Leroy will now travel to Houston Academy on Friday and Saturday to take on the Raiders with the winner going to Montgomery to take on the winner of West Morgan and Hatton in the 2A state championship game.
