JA takes third place in state
Coach Pringle said, "Words cannot describe how proud I am of this team. I've never coached a group that fought as hard as they did this weekend. We were so close to being in the championship game. But, I don't think I could have been any happier if we had won it all. They played their hearts out and went as far as they could. "I think we did pretty good considering we started four 9th graders and basically used one pitcher. It was a great experience for all of us and we appreciate all the fan support we had up there."
Jackson took a 3-2 lead on a 2-RBI single by Bailey Pringle in the second inning, scoring Nataline Moseley and Evin Bowling. That turned out to be all the Eagles needed as it turned pretty much into a pitcher's duel between Pringle and Marengo pitcher Ashley Stokes. Stokes struck out 12 while Pringle struck out seven. Pringle (7IP 5H 7K 1BB) got the win. Amy Thomas' double was the only Eagle extra base hit. Bowling, Pringle, Kayla Lowery, Laci Wright, Kayla Coleman and Moseley all had one hit each. "This was a big, big win for us. We haven't beaten Marengo in three years and we couldn't have picked a better time to break that streak. We got a couple of clutch hits and did what we had to on defense. This one was really big for us," said Pringle. JA 2, Lakeside 7 The Eagles committed six errors in the first two innings, resulting in seven runs for Lakeside's 7-2 win. Bailey Pringle (7IP 3H 3K 2BB) took the loss. Nataline Moseley had two hits for the Eagles, Kayla Coleman had a double, while Bowling, Pringle and Sydney Thomas added singles. "After the win over Marengo, we just came out flat and committed some errors that really hurt us. You can't do that against a team with a 32-3 record and expect to win. We've just got to refocus and play our game," Coach Pringle said. JA 6, Kingwood 1 The Eagles picked up their second win in the tournament, with a 6-1 victory to keep their championship hopes alive. Mallory Lankford and Kayla Lowery pitched the first three innings, keeping Kingwood scoreless. Pringle (4IP 3H 3K 0BB) came in and pitched the final four innings to help seal the win. Evin Bowling was 3-for-4 at the plate. Kayla Lowery's triple, along with singles by Meitzler, Moseley, Coleman and Pringle rounded out the Eagle hitting. Coach Pringle said, "Mallory and Kayla did really good jobs pitching. We needed to give Bailey a break and they came through for us. Someone on this team just always seems to come through when we need it." JA 5, MA 4 With the score tied 4-4, Kayla Lowery's RBI single drove in Evin Bowling in the bottom of the seventh inning and sent the Longhorns back to Linden, killing their hopes of a state championship. Jackson banged out 10 hits. Kayla Coleman's bases-loaded triple gave the Eagles their first three runs. Coleman and Bowling each had two hits. Pringle had a double while Wright, S. Thomas, Moseley and Meitzler added a hit each. Pringle (21-8) (7IP 5H 5K 1BB) got the win on the mound. "Kayla Lowery and Kayla Coleman came through with big hits in this one. Our girls had made up their minds that Marengo wasn't going to send us home. They really showed a lot of heart and determination and what they are made of. The first win over Marengo was big, this one was sweet," said Pringle. JA 2, Lowndes 5 The Eagles' hope of a state championship came to an end in their fifth game of the tournament, as eventual champion Lowndes Academy eliminated the Eagles 5-2. Mallory Lankford (5IP 7H 1K 2BB) pitched the first five innings for the Eagles, while Pringle (1IP 1H 0K 1BB) threw one inning in relief. Evin Bowling's 2-3 day at the plate led all Eagle hitters. Pringle had a RBI double and Kayla Lowery a RBI single to drive in Bowling twice for the Eagles' only runs. Kayla Coleman added a single. "Mallory did a great job throwing strikes and we played very good defense until we made a couple of errors in the bottom of the sixth. They took advantage of what we gave them and scored three unearned runs. That's what good teams do. We played really hard, but it wasn't meant to be.
"I'm proud of what we accomplished this year. I don't think many people expected us to get this far. There is a lot of experience coming back next year and I think we earned a lot of respect. We finished up 21-11 and that's pretty good against the competition we played," said Pringle.
