JMS sixth graders represent Clarke County in FAWN program

Sixth graders from Jackson Middle School gather together after listening to various speakers on forest and land management.
Sixth grade students from Jackson Middle School in Clarke County recently participated in the annual Forestry Awareness (FAWN) program conducted at the Lower Wildlife Sanctuary near Jackson last Thursday. The program is hosted by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service and teaches children the importance of good land, wildlife and forest management.

The students visited a number of stations where volunteers from various forest and wildlife management industries explained the different aspects of good land management.
Benji Elmore, a Clarke County forester, describes the age rings of trees.
Tommy Thompson of Louisiana Pacific explains and shows students wildlife to be found in forest.
Joey Koptis does a soil presentation during the F.A.W.N. program.
