Brother charged with sister's death following fatal wreck
Donna Dawn Rodgers, 27, of Evergreen was killed when the older model pickup she was a passenger in flipped. Her brother, Robert Keith Rodgers, 26, also of Evergreen, was the driver and was charged with driving under the influence immediately after the accident with the murder charge added Monday. District Attorney Spence Walker said the law allows such a charge when there is a death in an accident involving alcohol. The pickup was headed west and wrecked in a curve on County Road 2. Walker said he understood that Robert Rodgers had been to the Gainestown area to see a girl he was dating. She was not identified. Jackson firemen assisted at the wreck scene as did Jackson police, Clarke County deputies, Alabama State Troopers, ambulance personnel and Coroner Kevin Brunson and Walker. Trooper Darrell Linder worked the accident. Christopher Hughes of Call Christopher Wrecker Service in Grove Hill picked up the smashed vehicle. He said Sunday at an accident in Leroy that he had worked seven accidents over the weekend.
It was a deadly weekend with nine people killed on the state's rural highways.
