Andrew Parten receives scholarship

Andrew Parten
Andrew Parten, a senior at Thomasville High School, has been selected to receive the Dr. Charles E. and Patricia H. May Scholarship for 2007.

Parten will be awarded a check for $1,900 to assist with his education at either Shelton State Community College or the University of Alabama, whichever school he selects.

Parten maintained a 4.25 grade-point average during his junior and senior years at Thomasville High School. He also played athletics and was active in school clubs and organizations.

Parten plans to continue his studies in college in biology and chemistry and he will pursue a degree in medicine.

Parten is the son of Barry and Lynette Parten of Thomasville.

He was one of six Clarke County seniors to apply for the scholarship. The selection was made by a panel of four Clarke County residents. The scholarship is administered by the Community Foundation of South Alabama.

Dr. Charles E. May was a longtime physician in Jackson. The scholarship assists Clarke County seniors pursuing a degree in medicine or nursing at an accredited university in Alabama. Applicants must have a 3.5 grade-point average and a composite ACT score of at least 20.
