Leroy, G.W. Long to play in third round

The Leroy Bears won their first two rounds this past week as they defeated Reeltown and Houston County.

Against Reeltown, the Bears won 16-6. Brandon Jones was the winning pitcher as he scattered six hits and ran his overall record to 8-2.

Phillip Ervin went 4-4 for Leroy with a double and a home run and three RBIs. Grant Brown was 3-4 with a home run and a double and five RBIs. Brown's home run was a gameending three-run home run in the sixth inning. After falling behind 4-1 in the third the Bears plated two in the third, three in the fourth, four in the fifth and six in the sixth. Taylor White went 3-5 with two RBIs, while Matthew Watkins hit a three-run blast in the sixth.

In the second round's first game, the Bears defeated Houston County 13-3 behind a complete game pitching effort by Brandon Jones. White went 4-4 with three run's scored and two RBIs. Chris Weaver went 2- 3 with two doubles. Clint Moseley and Ervin had two hits apiece. The Bears used a ninerun fourth inning to put the Lions away in game one.

In game two of the second round, the Bears defeated the Lions 10-3. Moseley earned the win for Leroy to send his record to 6-3. He also went 3-4 with two RBIs. Brittan Schultz 2-4 with two RBIs. In the fourth inning of this game, the Bears added seven runs. Brown and White added two hits each for Leroy. White also worked the last three innings in relief.

Leroy sent their overall record to 31-7 with the wins and gives them back-to-back season of 30 or more wins.

This weekend, the Bears will travel to Skipperville to take on G.W. Long in the third round of the state playoffs.
