Aggies advance to third round

The Jackson High School Aggies moved into the third round of the AHSAA state baseball playoffs with a twogame sweep of St. James in the second round in Jackson.

In the first game, the Aggies knocked off the team from Montgomery 5-0. Jon Luke Jacobs pitched a complete game shutout and struck out 13 batters. The Aggies used one run in the third and four more in the fourth to snatch game one from the defending 4A state champions. Kent Myer had a RBI single in the third with Jeremy Reeves, J.D. Mitchell, Todd Waller and William Taylor all had RBIs in the fourth inning.

Jacobs went 3-4 with a run scored while Taylor went 2-3 with a run scored. Reeves also went 2-3 with a run scored and a RBI.

In game two of the best-ofthree series, Jackson defeated St. James 10-6. Jamie Eckstein was the winning pitcher. He went five innings, giving up two runs on four hits and striking out five. Sam Griffen came on in the fifth to close it out for Jackson.

St. James took a 1-0 lead into the fifth inning when Aggies' Mitchell, Waller, Jacobs and Myer all scored runs for Jackson. The Aggies used one more in the sixth and a five-run seventh to put away St. James for good. Jacobs went 2-4 with two RBIs and a run scored, Myer went 2-4 with two runs scored, Taylor went 2-4 with two runs scored and a RBI and Griffen added a two-run double in the fifth inning.

Jackson moves their overall record to 26-9 and prepare to host Trinity Presbyterian out of Montgomery on Friday at 4:30 and 7:00 p.m. The game on Saturday would be at 1 p.m. if needed.

"I would like to thank our fans for their support this past Friday night," said Jackson Head Coach Jason Jones. "We expect a good turnout for the Trinity game this Friday night as well."
