Deputies nab suspect in two-county forgery case
By Evan Carden SA Editor

Deputies from the Washington County Sheriff's Department apprehended a Wagarville woman, Friday, April 27, suspected of writing forged checks from Fulton to McIntosh.

According to investigating deputy Ronnie Sullivan, Christy Powell, 31, was arrested following the execution of a search warrant at her residence and is currently being held in the Washington County Jail on $30,000 bond. During the search, deputies found a purse reported stolen from the Wagarville Nutrition Center Feb. 26, by Millry resident Annie Howell.

Sullivan said Howell's purse contained her checkbook and wallet, which contained credit cards, when it was taken. Powell currently faces four counts of forgery and according to the deputy, will more than likely face additional charges once the investigation is complete. "I know that she is wanted in Clarke County as well," he said.

Acredit card belonging to Howell was recovered from Powell's vehicle, but it is unknown whether or not she made any bogus charges on it before Howell had it deactivated. "We won't know that until she (Howell) receives her bill," added Dep. Sullivan.
