Jackson Relay For Life is Friday The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Jackson will be Friday at New Era Cap Company on Highway 43. The event is a celebration of cancer survivors and the culmination of months of fund-raising for cancer research and programs. Cancer survivors will be honored at a reception sponsored by Jackson Medical Center at 5 p.m., and the opening ceremony will follow at 6 p.m. The public is invited to attend. The annual team talent competition will begin at 7:30 with team members offering their best singing, dance or anything goes talents. Visitors will also be able to cast their votes for the best decorated campsite. Local entertainment and live music will be going on throughout the night, as well as activities and games. Food will be available. A special feature will be a giant pirate ship put together by the Boise team, which will be available for photo opportunities. The luminary ceremony sponsored by McCorquodale and McCorquodale will take place at 9 p.m. and will honor those who lost their battle with cancer and offer a message of hope to those still battling the disease. All teams are asked to be ready no later than 5:30 p.m. for their team photos to be taken to appear in The South Alabamian. In the case of inclement weather, the event will relocate to the Gillmore Elementary School gym.
