Leroy High baseball team gets two wins at the beach The Leroy Bears traveled to Robertsdale and Gulf Shores this past week to play in the Nike Classic, hosted by Gulf Shores High School. On Thursday, the Bears played the Satsuma Gators at Robertsdale. Leroy won over the Gators 5-4. After Satsuma plated a run in the first, Leroy answered with two runs in the third, highlighted by a hit by Chris Weaver, driving in a run. Brandon Jones also contributed to the runs with a hit. Taylor White earned the win for Leroy. The Bears fell down 4-3, but in the bottom of the seventh inning, Weaver, Steven Scoggins and Clint Moseley had three straight singles to load the bases. Matthew Watkins hit a sacrifice fly to tie, followed by Phillip Ervin's single, which was the game winning hit for Leroy. In the second game, the Bears 14 -game winning streak was ended by Thompson. White was 3-5 with four RBIs in the 11-6 loss. On Friday, Leroy knocked off Washington County at Gulf Shores 6-3. Brandon Jones earned the win in a complete game effort. He gave up four hits over seven innings. Watkins was 3-3 with two RBIs. Brown and Scoggins also added two hits in the win.
On the last game of the day, Leroy took a 16-13 loss to Gulf Shores. After falling behind 10-1, Leroy cut it to 10-9 in the fourth inning and came back with four in the fifth, but could not hold on. Aerick Davis, Moseley, Scoggins and White all had two or more hits on the day.
