Lady Eagles win area softball championship
Bailey Pringle (16-7 4IP 6K 0H 0BB) threw a perfect game and the Lady Eagles (16-9) clinched the Area 1 championship with a 15-0 victory over Sparta Academy. The senior right-hander struck out six of the 12 batters she faced, as the mercy rule was called after four innings of play. Evin Bowling and Kayla Lowery had the hot bats for the Eagles, each going 3-for-3. Bowling had a triple and four RBIs, and each player had two stolen bases. Carly Gates added two hits, one being a double with a RBI. Sydney Thomas and Kayla Coleman added a hit each. "It was a big day for us. The perfect game, a shutout and winning the area championship all in the same day is pretty special. We've been playing pretty solid defense, and Bailey has been throwing extremely well lately. We've been playing better as a team and this was certainly a team effort. "I'm proud of our girls, and happy for them to be going back to Montgomery for the playoffs," said Coach Fred Pringle.
The Eagles dropped a 5-3 decision to the Lady Longhorns of Marengo Academy on Thursday. Lady Eagles held a 1- 0 lead going into the seventh inning, but with two outs. Marengo came back to score a run and tie the game, sending it into extra innings. The Horns plated four runs in their half of the inning, while the Eagles could only manage two. Pringle was the top hitter for the Eagles, going 2-for-4 with a RBI double. Evin Bowling also added a RBI double. Coleman, Wright and Nataline Moseley each had one hit. Coach Pringle noted, "I believe this was the most disappointing loss I've had since I've been coaching here. We were one out away from beating a team that will be one of the favorites to win the 2A championship. Give Marengo credit, they took advantage of what we gave them and that's what it takes to win big games. I was proud of our girls for not quitting, coming back with a couple of runs in the eighth. We will continue to work hard and hope we do better in the playoffs." JV
JA 3, MA 6 The Lady Longhorns took the Eagles JV by an 8-3 score. Maggie Bowling was the losing pitcher, giving up five hits with one strikeout. The Eagles got hits from Moseley, Lowery, Meitzler and S. Thomas.
