Outstanding students at UWA honored The University of West Alabama recently recognized outstanding students for their academic achievements and leadership roles at the institution's annual Honors Day. Honorees and their guests were treated to a luncheon at the Bell Conference Center before the Honors Day Convocation in Bibb Graves Auditorium. Jennifer Agee of Thomasville was inducted into Alpha Chi and Cardinal Key honor societies. A junior elementary education major, she is the daughter of Sherry Overstreet. Larry J. Cowan of Thomasville was named the University Scholar in Computer Information Systems. Cowan is a member of Alpha Chi, Cardinal Key, Delta Mu Delta, Phi Kappa Phi and Pinnacle honor societies. A first generation college graduate, he is the son of Betty Cowan. Vickie W. Harrison of Jackson was named the University Scholar in Business Administration. Harrison is a business administration graduate student. Kristina Rowden of Thomasville was inducted into Blue Key honor society. She is a member of Angelic Voices of Faith gospel choir, Alpha Pi Omega service fraternity and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. A senior elementary and early childhood education major, she is the daughter of George and Velma Rowden. Dana R. Thompson of Thomasville was named the University Scholar in Psychology. She is a member of Psi Chi national honor society in psychology. She is married to Clint Thompson.
The university scholars are chosen by the department faculty, the award annually recognizes an outstanding scholar based on academic performance and participation in related extracurricular activities.
