'Youth Extravaganza'

at Walnut Grove

The Walnut Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Morvin will be conducting its first "Youth Extravaganza" on Sunday, April 29 at 2:30 p.m. The Rev. A. Plott, pastor of New Prospect Missionary Baptist Church in Livingston, will be the guest speaker. Pastor David Fuller Sr. and youth minister, the Rev. James Howard Jr., invite everyone to attend and support the youth.

Spc. Chivers to be

honored Saturday

Specialist James Chivers who has been stationed for the last year at Fort Anaconda, just outside Bagdad, Iraq, will be honored at a welcome home cookout on Saturday, April 28 at the AEC Park in Leroy. Lunch will be served at 12 noon. Family and friends are invited to attend and are asked to bring a covered dish. Everything else will be furnished.

Workman to minister

Wynette Workman of Life Church of Mobile will be ministering at the White Smith Memorial Library on Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Long Drive contest

The Long Drive contest sponsored by Liberty National's Relay for Life Team will be conducted on Saturday, April 28 at the Jackson Links on the eighth hole. There will be chippin' and puttin' too. The fee is $20 with separate contests for men and women. Prizes will be furnished by Wal- Mart. Bring your own golf balls.

'Photography In Your

Own Backyard'

exhibit and reception

The "Photography in Your Own Backyard" contest and exhibit, featuring historical sites in Clarke County, opening reception is Friday, April 27 from 5-7 p.m. at the Clarke County Museum and Helm's House. Chip Cooper, a well-known judge for the contest, will be on hand with a sampling of his work and books featuring his photography. The exhibit will be open on Saturday, April 28 p.m. and Sunday, April 29, from 2-4 p.m. at which time the winners will be announced. The public is invited to attend.

JHS Class of 1978

to meet

The Jackson High School Class of 1978 will be conducting

meeting on Sunday, May 6 at the Jackson Steakhouse at 6 p.m. to make plans for a class reunion. All interested class members should be present.

Sullivan reunion

The 9th annual Sullivan Reunion is set for Saturday, May

at the Wagarville Senior Citizen Building (behind the old school) from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.

Gospel concert

fund-raiser May 5

The Promise Theatre and Performing Arts Center at the historic Locke Theatre in Jackson will be conducting a gospel concert fund-raiser on Saturday, May 5 at 6 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the New Cultural Arts Center. The Locke Theatre is located at 223 Commerce St. in Jackson.

Admission is $5 and love offerings will be accepted. Featured singers include Sensational Nightingales, Jackson Male Chorus, Ed Davis and the Clarke County High School choir. For more information call 251-246-2986.

Mt. Zion offers

scholarships

Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church will award four, $500 scholarships at its annual homecoming service on Aug. 19.

Two scholarships will be awarded in the name of the late Bernard Martin and are being sponsored by his family and friends. Other scholarships will be sponsored by the church.

Applications are available and can be obtained by calling or writing the church at P.O. Box 747, Grove Hill, AL 36451, 251- 275-8743. The Bernard Martin scholarship is open to any high school graduate or college student in the Mt. Zion, Winn, St. Luke or Grove Hill areas.

The church scholarship is only open to members of Mt. Zion No.2. When requesting applications, indicate the scholarship being sought. Deadline is July 1 for submitting applications and attached documentation.

NAACP to meet

The Clarke County NAACP will be meeting on Thursday, April 26 (today) at 7 p.m. All executive board and other members are asked to be present. Preparations for the Juneteenth Celebration will be discussed.

Chip Cooper to

speak at CCHS

meeting

Chip Cooper, director of photography at the University of Alabama and a freelance photographer, will be the guest speaker at the Clarke County Historical Society meeting, on Sunday, April 29, 2:30 p.m. at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill. His photographs have been published in several books including "Silent in the Land" and "Common Threads". On display at the museum will be the entries from the Grove Hill Arts Council's photography contest. This year the feature of the contest is historic photographs. The public is invited to attend.

Rotary selling

vidalia onions

The Jackson Rotary Club will be selling 10-lb. bags of vidalia onions beginning the first week in May. The proceeds will be used for scholarships and to send children to Camp ASCA. For more information call David Dolbear, 251-246-3697.

The Clarke County Mounted Sheriff's Posse will be hosting a horse show on Saturday, April 28 at the arena on Allen Road. Gate time begins at 6 p.m.

Wagarville VFD

fund-raiser April 28

The Wagarville Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting a fund-raiser at the Wagarville Nutrition Center on Saturday, April 28 at 6 p.m. There will be a cake auction, a variety show, food and drinks. Admission is $4. Children five and under get in free.

Gates Family

Reunion May 5

The descendants of the William and Mary Eve Stifflmire Gates family will be celebrating their family reunion at Ryan's Restaurant on Highway 43 in Thomasville on Saturday, May 5 at 12 noon. Lunch may be purchased from the restaurant menu.

A fellowship and decoration service will follow at the Gates' Family Cemetery on County Road 35 in Syrene at 2 p.m. There will be gospel music and a devotional. ceremony April 26-27

The Washington County Hall of Fame will be conducting its 6th annual induction ceremony on Friday, April 27, 2 p.m. at the Washington County Courthouse. The ceremony will be conducted in the large courtroom upstairs. An elevator will be accessible. The event is sponsored by the Washington County Museum Board of Directors.

Inductees are Frank William Boykin, William Edward Kimbrough Jr., M.D., Louise Rawls Kimbrough, Paul Walter Petcher, M.D. and Isreal Pickens. The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital will be hosting a jewelry sale presented by Jewelry Fundraisers on Thursday, April 26, (today) 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Friday, April 27, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

The 9th annual Jobs Fair and Business Expo will be conducted on Friday, May 4, 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Mobile Civic Center. It is Mobile's largest expo with more than 125 businesses to be present. Benefit for Hicks

Team Storm will be hosting a mixed martial arts event called "Team Storm Presents; Tough Enough III...'Survival" on Saturday, April 28 at the Jackson National Guard Armory. Part of the proceeds from the sales that evening will go to the Hicks family in Jackson who has recently had a tremendous tragedy in their family. The proceeds will help with hospital expenses and expenses as a result of being out of work during this time with their child. The martial arts event will be filled with knockouts, tap outs, slams and mixed martial arts fighting. Culture Fest

The annual "Culture Fest", sponsored by Genesis, Inc and the city of Jackson, is planned for May 5 on the Jackson City Hall grounds from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Businesses, groups and churches are asked to reserve a booth space. For space availability, call 251-247-0888. There will be food and entertainment and games for the children. Cash prizes and prize drawings will occur throughout the day. You must be present to win. Admission is free. Applications for booths may be picked up from Doshia's and the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.
