By Jeremy Sellers SA Reporter

The No. 2 ranked team in Class 2A picked up three wins over the past week, including a win over their cross-river rival.

In their first game last Tuesday, the Bears knocked off the Fruitdale Pirates 16-1. Phillip Ervin pitched a complete game. He gave up one run on three hits and struck out nine Pirates. The Bears used six runs in the first and six more in the second to put away the Pirates early on. Taylor White went 2-4 with two home runs and four RBIs. Brittian Schultz also added a solo shot in the first inning. Chris Weaver went 3-3 with a double and two RBIs while Matthew Watkins and Ervin went 2-2 with two RBIs each.

The Bears were suppose to play Washington County as well on Tuesday, but Mother Nature had other wishes.

On Thursday, Leroy shut out the Clarke County Bulldogs 8- 0. Schultz pitched a complete game six-hitter. White, Grant Brown and Brandon Jones all added doubles with RBIs while Chris Weaver hit a monster three-run home run.

Jackson came to town on Friday, but Leroy pulled out the 12-5 win. White pitched a complete game. Weaver was 2- 4 with a double and a two-run home run, which gave him 14 on the season. Steven Scoggins was 2-2 with two RBIs. Ervin was 3-4 with two RBIs. Schultz was 2-3 with two RBIs.

Leroy (26-5, 8-0) has claimed the 2A area 1 title and will play the first round of the state playoffs in Leroy on Tuesday, April 24.
