Salitpa home damaged by fallen tree

Salitpa firemen and other volunteers worked to cover the damage done by a falling tree to the home of Lee Finney on Highway 69 in Salitpa Saturday afternoon. The tree fell during a heavy wind and rainstorm that dumped several inches of rain on the area in a short period of time. Several small trees and tops were blown across Highway 69 between Jackson and Coffeeville and some roads were temporarily flooded by the heavy rains. According to Clarke-Washington Electric Membership Cooperative spokesperson Steve Sheffield, the storm knocked out power to approximately 1,500 customers countywide. Crews worked through Sunday to repair downed power lines and restore power. (SA photo by Jim Cox)
