Wagarville VFD

fund-raiser April 28

The Wagarville Volunteer Fire Department will be conducting a fund-raiser at the Wagarville Nutrition Center on Saturday, April 28 at 6 p.m.

There will be a cake auction, a variety show, food and drinks.

Admission is $4. Children five and under get in free.

GES PTO presents

'Night of the Arts'

April 24

The Gillmore Elementary School P.T.O. will be presenting its 4th annual "Night of the Arts" on Tuesday, April 24 in the school gymnasium.

Doors will be open from 6- 7:30 p.m.

More than 500 pieces of artwork will be on display. GES piano students will provide the music for the guests. The public is invited to attend and support the students' achievements.

Refreshments will be provided.

concert April 25

The Clarke County High School Concert Band and Chorus will be in concert at the Sage Auditorium on Wednesday, April 25, 6 p.m.

There will be no admission fee and the public is invited to attend.

Gates Family

Reunion May 5

The descendants of the William and Mary Eve Stifflmire Gates family will be celebrating their family reunion at Ryan's Restaurant on Highway 43 in Thomasville on Saturday, May 5 at 12 noon. Lunch may be purchased from the restaurant menu.

A fellowship and decoration service will follow at the Gates' Family Cemetery on County Road 35 in Syrene at 2 p.m. There will be gospel music and a devotional.

Reunion

The Clanton Family Reunion is scheduled for Sunday, April 29 at the home of Kathleen and Henry Dunagan in Coffeeville.

Everyone will attend church at the First Baptist Church in Coffeeville at 11 a.m. with a covered dish lunch at 12:45 p.m.

Roberts reunion

The descendants of Florence Almanza Cobb Roberts and William Riley Roberts will gather for their annual family reunion on Saturday, April 28 at Witch Creek Baptist Church in Campbell beginning at 10 a.m.

WashCo Hall of

Fame induction

ceremony April 27

The Washington County Hall of Fame will be conducting its 6th annual induction ceremony on Friday, April 27, 2 p.m. at the Washington County Courthouse.

The ceremony will be conducted in the large courtroom upstairs. An elevator will be accessible.

The event is sponsored by the Washington County Museum Board of Directors.

Inductees are Frank William Boykin, William Edward Kimbrough Jr., M.D., Louise Rawls Kimbrough, Paul Walter Petcher, M.D. and Isreal Pickens.

The public is invited to attend the ceremony.

CAA meeting

April 23

The Community Action Agency (CAA) will conduct its next scheduled board meeting on Monday, April 23 at the central office in Daphne located at 26440 N. Pollard Rd. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m.

A schedule of the 2007 remaining board meetings will be June 21, Aug. 23, Oct. 25 and Nov. 15 which is the annual board meeting.

The CAA of Clarke, Baldwin, Monroe, Escambia and Conecuh counties is an Equal Opportunity Employer and a United Way Agency.

Mobile Symphony presenting Bay Area

Strings Orchestra

The Mobile Symphony is presenting the Bay Area Strings Orchestra in concert, "A Musical Evening in Clarke County" on Thursday, April 26 at 7 p.m. in the Sage Auditorium in Grove Hill.

The concert is open to the public and there is no admission charge.

Donations at the door for the Symphony Educational Program will be most appreciated.

The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital will be hosting a jewelry sale presented by Jewelry Fundraisers on Thursday, April 26, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Friday, April 27, 7 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Jewelry is $5 and $10.

The sale is sponsored by the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted.

Jobs Fair and

Business Expo May 4

The 9th annual Jobs Fair and Business Expo will be conducted on Friday, May 4, 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Mobile Civic Center.

It is Mobile's largest expo with more than 125 businesses to be present. The event is sponsored by the South Alabama Regional Planning Commission (SARPC) and the city of Mobile.

Benefit for Hicks

family April 28

Tracey Anderson, owner and trainer of Team Storm, will be hosting a mixed martial arts event called "Team Storm Presents; Tough Enough III...'Survival" on April 28 at the Jackson National Guard Armory. Part of the proceeds from the sales that evening will go to the Hicks family in Jackson who has recently had a tremendous tragedy in their family. The proceeds will help with hospital expenses and expenses as a result of being out of work during this time with their child.

The martial arts event will be filled with knockouts, tap outs, slams and mixed martial arts fighting. The event will begin at 7 p.m. Ringside tickets are $25, general admission is $15 and kids 10 and under, $10.

GES Kindergarten

Gillmore Elementary School in Jackson will be conducting kindergarten registration on Thursday, April 19 (today) from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Every child must have a certified birth certificate, Alabama blue immunization form, Social Security card and be 5 years old by Sept. 2, 2007. All necessary documents are required at time of registration.

21st Castleberry Strawberry Festival

April 21

Final preparations are now being made for the 21st annual Castleberry Strawberry Festival.

The festival will be conducted in downtown Castleberry on Saturday, April 21.

There will be arts and crafts booths and fresh strawberries for sale. Several booths will contain handmade items. Entertainment will include Jenna Calloway from Pensacola, Fla. at 9:15 a.m.

Others to perform include The Twin Creek Cloggers from Brewton, Just N Tyme with Greg Wyndham from Andalusia, Highway 83 from Evergreen and Perfect Image from Mobile.

There will be several food vendors and free entertainment.

Bring a lawn chair and plan to spend the day. For booth and festival information call 251- 966-2422.

Descendants of the Robert Hudson, Lee Hudson, Willard Hudson, Berta Hudson Hoven and Annie Hudson Driskell will gather for a family reunion on Saturday, April 21 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Kimbell House in Jackson. Culture Fest

The annual "Culture Fest", sponsored by Genesis, Inc and the city of Jackson, is planned for May 5 on the Jackson City Hall grounds from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Businesses, groups and churches are asked to reserve a booth space. For space availability, call 251-247-0888. There will be food and entertainment and games for the children.

Cash prizes and prize drawings will occur throughout the day. You must be present to win. Admission is free.

Applications for booths may be picked up from Doshia's and the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

The Henley Cemetery annual Decoration Service is scheduled for Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m. The cemetery is located in Fulton.

Health Awareness

Fair planned

Bertha Mae Chapter No. 314 Order of the Eastern Star will be conducting their annual Health Awareness Fair on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Jackson City Hall.

There will be screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, speech and weight check.

Mini seminars will be presented on diabetes and health care disparities, hospice care, nursing home care, WIC/Immunizations, diet and exercise and Alzheimer's support. There will be booths set up representing a variety of businesses. All screenings are free and there will be free give-aways. For more information contact Anola F. Holly at 251- 246-3036. WSML summer

reading program

The White Smith Memorial Library in Jackson will be conducting its summer reading program for students in K-4th grade.

Registration will continue through April 20.

The fee is $10. The summer reading program will be conducted during the month of June.

PSA-United Way

seeking volunteers

Wednesday, April 25 has been designed as the 13th Day of Caring and the United Way of Southwest Alabama is seeking volunteers from the community to spend a day caring in the agencies. A Day of Caring is a day spent working on projects the United Way partner agencies need done but lack the time, staff or money to see them through.

Projects range from mulching and weeding, building wheelchair ramps to packing food boxes at the local food bank, reading to children or assisting the elderly with gardening.

Each assignment supports the nonprofit agencies that work year-round to benefit the community. To obtain volunteer forms contact the United Way office at 251-431-0113.

VFW 5355 meetings

The VFW Post 5355 and ladies auxiliary meets the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW Club on Club Wiley Road. Members are urged to attend and new members are welcome.

Sickle Cell

Sickle Cell education and support group meets the first Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m., at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.

Diabetic support

The Diabetic Support Group meets the first and third Thursday of the month at 6:30 p.m. in the dining room at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Diabetes education is also provided by the hospital free of charge. To schedule an appointment call (251) 275- 3191, ext. 507.
