Leroy baseball team grabs five more wins

The Leroy Bears upped their record this past week to 19-5 with wins over Flomaton, Fruitdale, Excel and Red Level.

In the Flomaton game last Tuesday, the Bears grabbed a 12-1. Brandon Jones added a solo home run in the second inning while Brittian Schultz went 3-4 with a three-run shot. Chris Weaver nailed two home runs, including a two-run blast. Jones picked up the win for Leroy.

On Thursday, Leroy defeated Fruitdale 13-3. The Bears used a six run second inning to set the tone for the victory. Weaver hit a solo shot in the fourth inning while Matthew Watkins went 2-3 with two RBIs. Taylor White also added a two-run triple in the third.

In the Excel game, Leroy snagged a 13-8 win. Weaver went 2-3 with two home runs, including a two-run bomb in the third inning. Schultz also went 2-3 with three RBIs. Excel's big blow came in the third inning when Hunter Norris slapped a three-run home run. White earned the win for Leroy.

Red Level came to town on Saturday for a doubleheader. In game one, Brandon Jones earned the win in the 12-2 effort, while Matthew Watkins led all hitters by slamming two home runs. One of his blasts came to lead off the second while the other one came in the fifth inning. Jones also hit a two-run blast in the first while White knocked a two-run home run in the second. Matt Delegal got the game-ending hit in the sixth.

For the nightcap with Red Level, the Bears grabbed an 11-1 win. Weaver hit his 11th home run of the season in the fourth inning. Clint Moseley got the win for Leroy to send his overall record to 5-2. Phillip Ervin, White, Jones, Steven Scoggins and Moseley all added hits in the winning effort.

Leroy (19-5) will play in the Washington County Tournament today (Thursday)
