Jackson hosts Business and Industry Appreciation Reception'
The informal setting offered a buffet style dinner and an opportunity for socializing and networking among local business people. During his comments to those in attendance, Jackson Mayor Richard Long said, "We are proud of all of you who are here. The city council and chamber of commerce decided this was something we needed to do. We thank you all for coming here tonight and will do all we can to help you be successful." Long recognized new businesses coming to Jackson. "I want to thank Mitch Shackleford and the folks at Gulf Lumber for putting more than 70 people back to work at the (Boise) sawmill. I would also like to welcome Walter Poole (Evergreen Truck Lines) who could not be here with us tonight." The mayor also welcomed Walgreens, which is currently building a new store on College Avenue where the old National Guard Armory was located. He then recognized expansion taking place at local companies, such as New Era Cap Company. "I want to thank Gary Nelson, plant manager, and New Era for having the confidence to expand their operations here," he said. "The $2 million expansion will bring 150 new jobs to Jackson."
Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce President Beth Criswell spoke briefly about support offered to local businesses. "The chamber and the city have partnered to form a business and industry forum," she said. "We will be visiting local businesses for your input on future endeavors. The main thing we want to focus on is to get people to visit Jackson and your businesses."
