Baptist Church in

The Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson will be observing Resurrection Day Services on Sunday, April 8, 7 a.m. with breakfast at 8:15. Sunday Schools will perform the Easter program and cantata.

Spring Revival will begin Monday, April 9 and continue through Friday, April 13 at 7 nightly. Evangelist will be Bernard Mitchell, pastor of Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Mendenhall, Miss. The Rev. D.W. Moore, pastor, invites everyone to attend.

Reunion

The descendants of Manuel Robinson and Wealthy Lynum Robinson will be meeting at the Robinson Family Reunion on Aug. 2-5. Registration material has been mailed to family members with known addresses.

Aggie Singers

present musical

The Jackson High School (JHS) Aggie Singers will be performing the "Disney High School Musical" at McCorquodale Auditorium on Tuesday, April 10 at 7 p.m.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children over 5.

The Aggie Singers will also perform the musical on Wednesday, April 11, 12:30 p.m. at the Jackson Middle School (JMS) and again at JHS on Thursday, April 12 at 9:30 a.m.

Cast members include Dane Batley, Whitney Strong, Marnita Stallworth and Alex Lee, at the JMS; Lee, Charmese Gibby, Brandon Johnson and Deanna Martin at JHS, high school performance and Batley, Blair Hundley, Anna Reid and Lee, on Tuesday night's performance.

Baptist hosting

Family Fun Day

St. Union Missionary Baptist Church will be hosting their "Family Fun Day" on Saturday, April 7, from 1-3 p.m. at the Kimbell House in Jackson. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for ages 3-11. Free hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, cotton candy and sno-cones will be available.

Clarke County

NAACP meeting

The Clarke County NAACP meeting scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled.

The meeting will be conducted on Thursday, April 12 at 6 p.m. The executive board and all members are asked to be present.

Culture Fest

planned May 5

The annual "Culture Fest", sponsored by Genesis, Inc and the city of Jackson, is planned for May 5 on the Jackson City Hall grounds from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Businesses, groups and churches are asked to reserve a booth space. For space availability, call 251-247-0888. There will be food, entertainment and games for the children.

Cash prizes and prize drawings will be given away throughout the day. You must be present to win. Admission is free.

Applications for booths may be picked up from Doshia's and the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce.

VFW free dinner

April 14

The VFW in Jackson invites all members and spouses to a free dinner on Saturday, April 14 at noon. For reservations call 246- 3232 or 246-4931.

April 22

The Henley Cemetery annual Decoration Service is scheduled for Sunday, April 22 at 2 p.m. The cemetery is located in Fulton.

Photography contest

entry deadline

April 13 The Grove Hill Arts Council is sponsoring a photography contest and exhibit April 27-29 at the Clarke County Museum.

Chip Cooper, an award winning Alabama photographer, will be judging the event. Entries must be brought to the public libraries in Grove Hill, Jackson or Thomasville, between April 2-13. Rikard's Mill

reopening April 14

The annual reopening of Rikard's Mill in Beatrice is scheduled for Saturday, April 14, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children. The grist mill will feature turning out meal and grits as it was done when Jake Rikard first established the mill on Flat Creek in 1845.

There will be demonstrations of blacksmithing, storytelling, arts and crafts. Bluegrass, southern gospel and country music will be performed throughout the day. Barbecue will also be available for purchase.

Spring Fling

April 6-7 in Butler

The town of Butler is sponsoring a two-day "Spring Fling" festival April 6-7 at the old Vanity Fair site across from Bumpers Funeral Home.

Hours are noon to 10 p.m. on Friday and 8 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday.

A schedule of diverse musical artists will be featured.

Artists performing are:

April 6 - The Kattawar Brothers, a rock and roll band from Memphis, will appear at 9 p.m.; bluegrass singer, Claire Lynch, 6 p.m. and singer songwriter, Steve Forbet, a native of Meridian, Miss., 7:30 p.m.

April 7 - The Larry Wallace Band, a bluegrass ensemble, will perform at noon; country rock band "Foot of the Hill" from Birmingham, at 3 p.m.; blues guitarist, Willie King of Pickens County, 7:30 and Tammy and Jerry Sullivan at 6 p.m. Other acts will be performing too.

Admission is free.

Health Awareness

Fair planned

Bertha Mae Chapter No. 314 Order of the Eastern Star will be conducting their annual Health Awareness Fair on Saturday, April 21 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Jackson City Hall.

There will be screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar, speech and weight check.

Mini seminars will be presented on diabetes and health care disparities, hospice care, nursing home care, WIC/Immunizations, diet and exercise and Alzheimer's support. There will be booths set up representing a variety of businesses. All screenings are free and there will be free give-a-ways. For more information contact Anola F. Holly at 251-246-3036.

White Smith Memorial

Library summer

reading program

The White Smith Memorial Library in Jackson will be conducting its summer reading program for students in K-4th grade.

Early registration will be on April 16, 4-6 p.m. Registration will continue through April 20.

The fee is $10. The summer reading program will be conducted during the month of June.

SWAIA meeting

April 17

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association, SWAIA, will be conducting a public meeting on Tuesday, April 17, 7 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse.

Guest speaker will be attorney J.R. Morgan. He has a law practice in Jackson. The topic of discussion will be "Preserving Your Legal Rights: Adverse Land Possession."

There will be a question and answer period.

JHS Class of 1987

Jackson High School Class of 1987 will be conducting a reunion meeting at Visitation Catholic Church on Sunday, April 1 at 3 p.m. The reunion is scheduled for Saturday, July 21 and all class members are invited to attend.

Bay Area Food Bank

The Bay Area Food Bank will be hosting their ninth annual

"Gourmet Chef Challenge" on Tuesday, May 1 at the Mobile Convention Center from 6-8:30 p.m.

The challenge will present the area's best chefs along with gourmet food from area restaurants and caterers and a silent auction.

Guests will have the opportunity to taste fine dishes prepared by Naman's Catering, Tyner's Catering, Wintzell's Oyster House, The Original Oyster House, The Bienville Club, Zea Rotisserie, Macaroni Grill, Bluebell Ice Cream, Bilotti's Italian Cafe, The Salvation Army, Sonny's Barbeque, Saucy Q, Greer's Fairhope Market, Budweiser-Busch Distributing Company, Baumhauers Wings Restaurant, Buffalo Rock Pepsi and Atlanta Bread Company.

Other restaurant owners are invited to participate. The evening will include live jazz music from Phyllis Linton.

Springtacular

Saturday, April 7, Exceptional Children, Inc. (ECI) will be hosting its annual fund-raiser event at the Edith Wilcox Recreational Community Center in Chatom.

This year's event will feature Jr. Angler's Bass Fishing Tournament, a casting tournament, gumbo cook-off and a silent auction.

The silent auction will include items such as a beach vacation, Smoky Mountain retreat, handpainted pottery, handmade furniture, fishing equipment and much more. For tournament entries and information call ECI at 251-847- 2970, Monday through Friday.

FBC Mom's Day Out

Registration is now open to the public for Mom's Day Out classes and 4-year-old kindergarten (4K) class for the 2007-2008 school year.

Mom's Day Out meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until noon for ages 6 months to 3 years of age.

The 4K program meets every morning from 8 a.m. until 12 noon for those who will be 4 years of age on or before Sept. 2, 2007.

PSA-United Way

seeking volunteers

Wednesday, April 25 has been designed as the 13th Day of Caring and the United Way of Southwest Alabama is seeking volunteers from the community to spend a day caring in the agencies.

A Day of Caring is a day spent working on projects the United Way partner agencies need done but lack the time, staff or money to see them through.

Projects range from mulching and weeding, building wheelchair ramps to packing food boxes at the local food bank, reading to children or assisting the elderly with gardening.

Each assignment supports the nonprofit agencies that work yearround to benefit the community. To obtain volunteer forms contact the United Way office at 251-431- 0113.
