Mark Your Calendar Dixie League tryouts Saturday Dixie League tryouts are scheduled for Saturday, March 24, 9:30 a.m. at the North Jackson Park. FBC Mom's Day Out and 4K registration Registration is now open to the public for Mom's Day Out classes and 4-year-old kindergarten (4K) class for the 2007- 2008 school year. Mom's Day Out meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. until noon for ages 6 months to 3 years of age. The 4K program meets every morning from 8 a.m. until 12 noon for those who will be 4 years of age on or before Sept. 2, 2007. Rikard's Mill annual reopening The annual reopening of Rikard's Mill on April 14 will feature the grist mill turning out meal and grits again, just as it has done since Jake Rikard first established a grist mill on Flat Creek in 1845. There will be blacksmithing, arts and crafts, storytelling and bluegrass, southern gospel and country music. Barbecue will also be available. The mill is located between Monroeville and Camden on Highway 265, 5 miles north of Beatrice. Chatom Youth Theatre Group to perform The Chatom Youth Theatre Group, sponsored by the town of Chatom, will be performing the broadway hit, "Once Upon A Mattress." This is the true story of the "Princess and the Pea". Performers range from 6th- 12th grade. Performances are Sunday, March 25, 3 p.m. and Monday, March 26 at 7 p.m. and will be conducted at the Washington County High School in Chatom. Admission is free. CRSVP hosting tea The Coffeeville Retired Seniors Volunteer Program (CRSVP) will be hosting a tea on Tuesday, April 3, 2 p.m. at the Coffeeville Nutrition Center. Donna Phillips, director of Southwest Alabama RSVP, will be speaking on the importance of the program and the need for more volunteers. Everyone is invited to attend and to bring a guest. Clarke County Historical Society to meet The Clarke County Historical Society will be meeting on Sunday, March 25, 2:30 p.m. at the Grove Hill Town Hall. The program will be a "show and tell" format. Those attending are asked to bring an item of historical or local interest to display. The public is invited to attend. ASCC hosting NLNAC visit Alabama Southern Community College is requesting initial National League of Nursing (NLN) accreditation of its associate degree nursing program. The public is invited to attend a meeting with the NLNAC site visitors on Wednesday, April 4, 3 p.m. on the Monroeville campus in the library building, room LIB 101. Easter bake sale at St. Peter's Episcopal Church There will be a bake sale on Saturday, April 7 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Jackson from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. "This will be a great opportunity to purchase baked goods for Easter," said church member, Croom Finlay. Sassy Rabbit Antiques Yard Sale and Bake Sale Sassy Rabbit Antiques, located at 389 N. College Ave., Jackson, is hosting a yard sale on Friday, April 6, beginning at 8 a.m. and a bake sale on Saturday, April 7, 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. All proceeds will support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. Promise Theatre conducting fund-raiser The Promise Theatre Arts Center in the old Locke Theatre will be conducting a barbecue plate dinner and car wash behind the theatre on Saturday, March 24 from 12 noon until 5 p.m. All proceeds will be used towards the arts program. Jackson swim team seeking members The Jackson swim team, the Waverunners, is currently seeking members ages 4-18 for the 2007 swim season. PSA-United Way seeking volunteers Wednesday, April 25 has been designed as the 13th Day of Caring and the United Way of Southwest Alabama is seeking volunteers from the community to spend a day caring in the agencies. A Day of Caring is a day spent working on projects the United Way partner agencies need done but lack the time, staff or money to see them through. Projects range from mulching and weeding, building wheelchair ramps to packing food boxes at the local food bank, reading to children or assisting the elderly with gardening. Each assignment supports the nonprofit agencies that work year-round to benefit the community. To obtain volunteer forms contact the United Way office at 251-431-0113.
