Spiritual Beliefs
In 2 Chronicles 1:7 God appeared to Solomon in a dream and said, "What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you." Solomon could have asked for anything from God. He could have said, "Give me good health, increase my popularity, give me wealth." But instead he asked for wisdom and knowledge. Solomon's request for wisdom revealed the true nature of his character. He wanted to do God's will above anything else. He knew it would take wisdom to be the leader of a great nation. God is the source of all wisdom. We need His wisdom in making decisions concerning our families, our jobs and our future. The more we study God's Word and seek Him in prayer the more we will become like Christ. Our minds and spirits will be renewed and our wisdom will increase. Solomon realized that wisdom was the most valuable thing he could possess. Proverbs 3:13-15 says to us "Happy is the person who finds wisdom and gains understanding. For the profit of wisdom is better than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her." God later showed His approval of Solomon's request by blessing him with wealth, riches and honor as well as wisdom.
When we put God first, He will give us all that we need. This is not to say that we will be wealthy and famous in the ways of the world, but the wisdom He gives will enable us to have rich rewarding lives.
