Man injured on ATV in woods near Carlton Four-wheel-drive vehicles were used to reach a man who was injured in a four-wheeler accident, shortly before 2 p.m., March 2, in the woods near Carlton. According to Jackson Emergency Transport Service (JETS) Director Kevin Brunson, Frank Riordan, 51, of Saraland, suffered injuries to his upper body, possibly his spinal cord, when he wrecked an ATV. "The ground was still saturated from the previous day's storms and our ambulance was unable to reach Carlton the victim," he said. "Several of our personnel who were off-duty responded and used their personal four-wheel-drive vehicles to reach him." Brunson said LifeFlite responded, first landing at Frank Lee's store in Carlton, then on the riverbank, where the victim was brought out of the woods. Lee also used his vehicle to assist with the rescue efforts. "We utilized our GPS (global positioning system) to direct the helicopter to the riverbank," added Brunson. Riordan was flown to a Mobile hospital for treatment. | |||||
