Eagles open season with one win and three losses

Cottage Hill 7, JA 6

Coach Bobby Carpenter's Jackson Academy baseball team opened their 2007 season in Mobile against Cottage Hill Christian Academy last week. The Warriors scored six runs in the first four innings holding the Eagles scoreless for the first five innings. However, the Eagles exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game. Abase hit for Cottage Hill with a runner on second in the bottom of the seventh inning sealed the Eagles fate with a 7-6 loss.

Sophomore Wesley Harris paced the Eagles with three hits and a run scored. Senior Josh Andrews added two hits and a run scored. Sophomore Logan Breedlove notched one hit and a sacrifice fly and two RBI. Others adding base hits to the Eagle effort were senior Brandon Gilpin, Joseph Parnell, Logan Barnes and Johnathon Coleman.

Andrews and Barnes combined on the mound giving up 11 hits, 1 walk, and striking out one.

JA 9, Monroe Academy 3

The Eagles got their first win of the season last Thursday at the Clarke Prep Tournament over the Monroe Academy Vols. The Eagles collected seven hits and scored six runs in the third inning on their way to the 9-3 victory.

Junior Logan Barnes earned the win, pitching five strong innings striking out eight Volunteers. Logan Breedlove pitched the final two innings closing the door on the Vols by allowing only one hit.

At the plate, the Eagles were led by Josh Andrews who banged out three hits in four trips and added a run scored and a RBI. Other Eagle hits came from Wesley Harris (two RBIs), Brandon Gilpin (three runs scored), Joseph Parnell (two RBIs), and Jaime Rone.

Patrician 12, JA 2

The Patrician Saints pounded out 11 hits in six innings en route to a 12-2 victory over the Eagles. Saints' pitchers limited JA to only three hits.

Logan Breedlove led the Eagles at the plate with two hits and one RBI. Parnell also collected a base hit.

Josh Andrews struck out four and allowed four hits while pitching four innings. Jaime Rone pitched the final two innings for the Eagles and struck out two Saints.

The Eagles will be on the road again tomorrow in Demopolis to play West Alabama Prep at 5 pm. The Eagles will be in Monroeville to play a doubleheader at Monroe Academy starting at 10 am.
