Survivors include his wife, Gladys Dearmon of Jackson; son, Michael Dearmon of Sommerville, Tenn.; two daughters, Janice (Russell) Wilson of Manassas, Va. and Linda (Robert) Chambless of Millry; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. The graveside service will be Thursday, March 1(today) in the Trinity Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Jackson with Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directing. Edna Lunsford Justice Edna Lunsford Justice, 88, a resident of Enterprise and a native of Grove Hill, died Feb. 21, 2007 at her home. She was a retired seamstress for Vanity Fair and a member of Magnolia Assembly of God. She is survived by a son, Robert Lunsford of Enterprise; daughter, Betty Hall of El Paso, Texas; sister, Annie Lou Downey of Grove Hill; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Paul Kendrick of Chatom, who is the director of Missions for the Washington Baptist Association; three sons, Milton (Carol) Kendrick of Marianna, Fla. and twin sons, Ronald (Nita) Kendrick of Montgomery and Russell (Donna) Kendrick, both of Monroeville; two daughters, Lisa (Ronnie) Smoke of Deatsville and Candace (Dr. Don) Hines of Troy; 17 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. The funeral service was at Zion Chapel Baptist Church in Elba. Interment was in the church cemetery with Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom directing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Caring Hearts Center Building Fund in care of the Washington Baptist Association, P.O. Box 1447, Chatom, AL 36518. Pallbearers were her grandsons, Thomas Kendrick, Kris Kendrick, Jonathan Kendrick, Matt Kendrick, Josh Kendrick, Lowell Thomas, David Ebarb and Daniel Ebarb. Honorary pallbearers were her granddaughters, Alicia Kendrick, Christi Register, Laurie Kendrick, Kimberly Thomas, Britney Asher and ministers, wives and widows of ministers. Billy Ray Williams Billy Ray Williams, 75, died Feb. 22, 2007 at his residence in Chatom. A lifelong native of Chatom, he was a self-employed farmer and a member of Chatom United Methodist Church. Survivors include two brothers, Clarenton (Evelyn) Williams and Teddy (Elsie) Williams, all of Chatom and nine nieces and nephews. The funeral service was Feb. 24 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with the Rev. Andy Gartman officiating. Interment was in the Grace-Williams Cemetery in Fruitdale. Pallbearers were Billy Williams, Matt Williams, Bruce Williams, Yancy Reynolds, Curt Brown, Larry Wayne Williams, Brannon McFarland and Casey Brown. Honorary pallbearers were Perry Dickey, James Forbes, John Dewey Hair, Jack Thompson, Craig Howard, Thomas Williams, David Sheffield, J.S. Loper and Junior Loper. Mattie Bell Phelon Jackson Mattie Bell Phelon "Sister" Jackson, 65, a native and resident of the Choctaw Bluff community in Jackson, died Feb. 23, 2007 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. A member of New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Choctaw Bluff, she was a homemaker. She was known in the community as "Sister" for raising and caring for many children in the community. She is survived by a husband, Oliver Lee Jackson of Choctaw Bluff; three sisters, Mary Phelon (Timothy) Reaves of Choctaw Bluff, John) Davis of Jackson and Sarah Phelon Young of Rannie Phelon (John) Davis of Jackson and Sarah Phelon Young of Virginia; six brothers, Joseph Phelon, Golden Phelon, the Rev. Wash Phelon Sr. and Rivers (Nancy) Phelon, all of Choctaw Bluff, David (Chena) Phelon and Tom Phelon, both of Mobile. The funeral service will be Saturday, March 3, 11 a.m. at New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church in Choctaw Bluff with the Rev. Van Williams, pastor and eulogist, officiating. Viewing will be Friday, March 2 from 2-6 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson and at the church on Saturday from 10-11 a.m. Burial will be in the Darrington Cemetery. Ezekiel Whittle Sr. The funeral service for Ezekiel Whittle Sr., a native of Greenville and resident of St. Stephens, will be Saturday, March 3, 10 a.m. at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church No. 2 in Jackson with the Rev. D.W. Moore, pastor and eulogist, officiating. Viewing will be Friday from 2-6 p.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson. A second viewing will be at the church one hour prior to service. The funeral cortege will travel to Bethlehem Baptist Church in Greenville for a second service. Interment will be in the Bedgood Cemetery in Greenville. Mr. Whittle, a retired supervisor for Alabama Electric Coop in Leroy, died Feb. 25, 2007 at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital at the age of 64. A member of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church No. 2, he served as chairman of trustees, a former choir member and was director of church hospitality. A member of the Pine Belt Lodge No. 404 in Greenville, he was preceded in death by his parents Azell Whittle and Lessie Wee McClain Whittle and a son, Ezekiel Whittle Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Edna Ruth Cook Whittle of St. Stephens; two daughters, Jennifer (Milton) Whittle-Colston of Olive Branch, Miss. and Denise Whittle-Smith of Montgomery; sister, Annie Delois (Junius) Wells of Jasper; four brothers, Hamidullah (Gwendolyn) El-Amin of Petersburg, Va., Namiah (Ida Nell) Whittle and Allin (Betty) Whittle, both of Greenville and John Whittle of Indianapolis, Ind.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
