Mark Your Calendar Jackson Little League tryouts The Jackson Little League tryouts will be conducted on Saturday, March 3, 10 a.m. at North Jackson Park. PTPAC conducting fund-raiser The Promise Theater and Performing Arts Center in Jackson will be conducting a fund-raising benefit on Saturday, March 3, 7:30 p.m. at the Locke Theater. They will be celebrating Black History and Women's History Month. There will be a live talk and concert with special guest Frankie Fields Smith, attorney and former presiding judge for the city of Prichard. Desserts will be provided. Jackson Women's League hosting golf tournament The Jackson Women's League will be hosting a fourperson scramble golf tournament, 18 holes, on Saturday, March 10. Registration is 8 a.m. with tee-off at 9. There will be money, prizes and lunch after play. The Jackson Women's League is a nonprofit organization and all proceeds go to local charities. JA conducting pageants this weekend The Jackson Academy (JA) Miss Eagle Pride 2007 pageant is scheduled for Friday, March 2 at 6 p.m. The elementary school pageant, Miss Red and White, will be Saturday, March 3 at 5 p.m. The concession stand will be open before the pageants begin and at intermission. The theme is "Hollywood Glamour". Entertainment will be provided by JA students who participated in the JA Talent Show last month. Stacy Atchison, yearbook advisor, invites everyone to support this yearbook fundraiser and the girls. Bake Sale at FUSB Friday There will be a bake sale Friday, March 2 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. at the First United Security Bank in Jackson, located at 2101 College Ave. Cakes, cookies, brownies, pies and bread as well as individually wrapped items will be for sale. Proceeds will go to Relay for Life. JHS Class of 1957 to gather June 9 Jackson High School Class of 1957 will be celebrating its 50th class reunion on June 9 at H.W. Coffeeville RSVP to meet The Coffeeville RSVP will meet at the Nutrition Center on Tuesday, March 6 at 2 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend. Dreams at Rhapsody in Blue Stables accepting applications Dreams at Rhapsody in Blue Stables is accepting applications for riding lessons, therapeutic riding lessons and lesson volunteers. Without volunteers to assist with beginner riders and riders with physical disabilities these opportunities could not be provided. ATFA hosting landowner tour The Alabama Treasure Forest Association and the Clarke County Forestry Planning Committee are hosting a Landowner Tour on Saturday, March 10 north of Jackson. Topics will include logging practices, forest product utilization, invasive species, cost share programs, prescribe burning and an update on the new LP oriented strand board mill. Speakers will be Tom Thompson, Louisiana Pacific, Madeline Hildreth and Benji Elmore of the Alabama Forestry Commission. The tour will begin at 10 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. GES 4K registration March 9 Gillmore Elementary School will be conducting 4-year-old kindergarten registration on Friday, March 9 beginning at 8 a.m. In order to register, children must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 2. At the time of registration, the child's birth certificate, Social Security card and the Alabama blue immunization form must be presented. The fee is $150 and due that day. Registration is limited to 16 children and on a first come, first serve basis. Additional names may be placed on a waiting list in the event one of the spots becomes available. Contestants needed for CCARC Chili Tasting Fair The Clarke County Association for Retarded Citizens (CCARC) will be hosting their "Chili Tasting Fair" at the CCARC Spring Jubilee on Saturday, March 17. The chili tasting contest has five entries to date and are wanting five more. Contestants should call Helen Guy at 251- 246-9603 to register. A copy of the recipe should be sent a week in advance and will be made available to visitors for 50 cents per copy. Contestants should also bring enough chili for tasters to purchase. Samples will be sold for 50 cents. Alabama River Festival March 10 The Alabama River Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Claiborne Lock and Dam. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children. The festival will include reenactments from the 1700s and 1800s. Visit with Indians, frontiersmen, traders and travelers. There will be music, demonstrations and food. Bring in artifacts and fossils and the University of Alabama experts, Dr. Don Jones and Dr. Jerry Oldshure, will be on hand to identify and answer questions. MCHS announces Pilgrimage 2007 The Marengo County Historical Society announces the Spring Pilgrimage 2007. Homes in Demopolis from the 19th and 20th centuries will be available for tour. Included will be Lyon's Hall, c.1850, Gaineswood, c.1843 and the renovated town hall, c.1843, as well as private residences. (CAC) is conducting its dinner and auction on Tuesday, March 6 at the Fish House in Jackson.
