JHS baseball starts season with DH split The Jackson High School baseball team split a doubleheader in their seasonopener at Andalusia on Monday. The Aggies (1-1) grabbed a win in the opening game 6-4. Jon Luke Jacobs took the win as Sam Griffin grabbed the save. Jackson was down 4-1 going into the sixth inning when they scored four runs to give them a 5-4 lead. Matthew Allen led the Aggies with a single and two RBIs while Kent Myer went 1- 3 with a home run. In the seventh inning, Griffin singled home Todd Waller to seal the deal. In game two, the Bulldogs took a 5-1 victory. The Aggies' lone run came off the bat of Jacobs when he grabbed a RBI in the fourth inning. William Taylor also went 1-3. Coach Jason Jones's squad will travel to face Millry on Thursday before hosting Leroy on Saturday. "I was happy to see us battle back in the first game," said Coach Jones. "That showed a lot when we were able to do that on the road." Jackson's season schedule features the Tombigbee Tournament and Northview Invitational. The Aggies will be traveling to face UMSWright, Leroy, Demopolis, Clarke County, Washington County, Escambia County, Sweet Water, Monroe County, Thomasville and Millry. All of these teams will make a trip to Jackson this season. Baseball playoffs are set to start on April 24 and continue through May 20, which is state in Montgomery. Stuart Etheredge and Dwain Dorman will assist Coach Jones this season.
The Tombigbee Tournament will be conducted as usual this season, beginning on Monday, Feb. 26. The Aggies will take on Sweet Water on that day, followed by Citronelle on Tuesday.
