Guard your heart
In support of National Wear Red day, students, teachers and staff at Jackson High School were encouraged to wear red that Friday in loving memory of Edn'drika Henderson. Rayferd Love, a student and a longtime friend of Edn'drika, stated, "Awareness of heart disease is important because teens do not realize that it can have an affect on them and the people they love." Heart disease is the number one killer of women. The Heart Truth campaign is doing all they can to share this serious message. The symbol of the awareness campaign is a simple red dress, which helps to convey the message of heart disease in women. It is time women lose the preconception that this is only a man's issue. Abby Beverly, registered nurse at Jackson High School said, "Part of my role is to educate teens about how to live healthy lifestyles and to be aware of what causes heart disease. Also, they need to learn how to prevent it by not smoking and having a healthy diet.
"Teenagers today do not think of heart disease as something that affects them. Students should know that heart disease affects people of all ages, races and lifestyles."
