lenten discussions St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Jackson will be conducting lenten discussions on Wednesdays followed by a light lunch. Topic for Wednesday, Feb. 28 is "Nicodemus and Jesus: Night Versus Day. The Truth and Avoiding the Truth. Everyone invited to attend.

Contestants needed

for CCARC Chili

Tasting Fair The Clarke County Association for Retarded Citizens (CCARC) will be hosting their "Chili Tasting Fair" at the CCARC Spring Jubilee on Saturday, March 17.

The chili tasting contest has five entries to date and are wanting five more. Contestants should call Helen Guy at 251- 246-9603 to register.

A copy of the recipe should be sent a week in advance and will be made available to visitors for 50 cents per copy. Contestants should also bring enough chili for tasters to purchase. Samples will be sold for 50 cents.

Those competing should come early to decorate their booths and judging will be at 10 a.m.

Clarke County

Historical Society

to meet

Leah Rawls Atkins will be the speaker at the February meeting of the Clarke County Historical Society. The meeting will be held on Sunday, Feb. 25 in the fellowship hall of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church.

Dr. Atkins is the author of several books and retired director of the Auburn University Center for Arts and Humanities. Her new book, Developed for the Service of Alabama, The Centennial History of the Alabama Power Company is the story of the electrification of Alabama.

The lecture is funded by the Alabama Power Company and administered by the Center for Arts and Humanities in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University.

Thomasville Church

of God revival

Revival services will be conducted at Thomasville Church of God located at 708 Brown St. in Thomasville.

Guest speaker will be evangelist Lewis Smith.

Services will be at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Sunday and 7 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday.

Pastor Raymond Williams invites everyone to attend.

Museum Membership Day set

for Feb. 28

On Feb. 28, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Old Courthouse Museum in Monroeville will be hosting "Museums Membership Day".

Tickets for, "To Kill A Mockingbird" will be on sale this day only for members. Tickets are limited to four per member. If not a member, you may join that day and receive full benefits of membership or call the museum office at 251- 575-7433.

Alabama River

Festival March 10

The Alabama River Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 10 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Claiborne Lock and Dam.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children.

The festival will include reenactments from the 1700s and 1800s.

Visit with Indians, frontiersmen, traders and travelers.

There will be music, demonstrations and food.

Bring in artifacts and fossils and the University of Alabama experts, Dr. Don Jones and Dr. Jerry Oldshure, will be on hand to identify and answer questions.

The Clarke County Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will hold their Superfund Banquet and Auction on March 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Miss Alabama Teen America Scholarship

Pageant accepting

applications

The 2007 Miss Alabama Teen America Scholarship Pageant is now accepting applications.

The pageant is scheduled for March 24.

Contestants must be 14-18 years old by the national pageant in July. They will compete in five areas including talent or speech, interview, evening gown, swimsuit and community service. Contestants should not have entered college. The deadline to enter is Feb. 28.

The winner of the Miss Alabama Teen America title will win $50,000 in tuition scholarships and various other prizes and will earn the right to represent Alabama in the Miss Teen America Pageant in July in Nashville, Tenn. The Smokey City Rails Model Railroad Club will be hosting their 16th Train Show and Sale on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Zion Baptist Church at 1104 Gene Reed Road in Birmingham.

2008 Tea Feb. 25

All junior high school girls from Washington County interested in the Junior Miss 2008 program must attend a mandatory "Tea" Sunday, Feb. 25, 2 p.m. at the Scott House in Chatom.

Girls attending the tea should bring a copy of their birth certificate, $65 for a costume and photographers fee and a parent or legal guardian.

Memorial Library

classes

Basic computer classes will be offered at the White Smith Memorial Library on Thursdays beginning March 15 and continuing through April 19 from 10 a.m. until 12 noon.

Each member will receive a certificate of completion if they attend all six classes.

Class size is limited to six. Registration begins Feb. 23 and ends March 2.

Pilgrimage 2007

The Marengo County Historical Society announces the Spring Pilgrimage 2007. Homes in Demopolis from the 19th and 20th centuries will be available for tour. Included will be Lyon's Hall, c.1850, Gaineswood, c.1843 and the renovated town hall, c.1843, as well as private residences.

This two-day event will begin Saturday, March 10, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 11, from 2-5 p.m. Tickets are available each day at Bluff Hall in Demopolis, 407 N. Commissioners Ave., $20 per person, children under 12, $5.

dinner and auction

The Regional Child Advocacy Center Inc. (CAC) is conducting its dinner and auction on Tuesday, March 6 at the Fish House in Jackson.

The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. There will be items for a silent auction, a live auction and door prizes.

Admission is $25 and includes both auctions and a steak and shrimp dinner.

All proceeds will benefit the two programs under the nonprofit agency, the Child Advocacy Center and Almost Home.
