He is a graduate of Huntingdon College in Montgomery and was called to the ministry March 6, 1960 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Montgomery. Denton is presently pastor of Bower Memorial Baptist Church in Evergreen where he has been pastor for 11 years. Members of Bower Memorial Baptist Church are honoring the Rev. and Mrs. Denton with a reception on Saturday, Feb. 24 from 2-4 p.m. in the fellowship hall of the church. All of the Denton's family and friends are invited to this time of fellowship honoring their many years of service. The church is located at 301 Wild Ave., entering Evergreen off Highway 84. Signs with directions will be placed on U.S. 84 at the Cotton Hucheson plant. The Dentons began their ministry at Bower when the church was in another location. Under their ministry, the church purchased three acres of land and built the $500,000 structure in two phases over the past five years. The complex is debt free and consists of the sanctuary, educational building and fellowship hall with kitchen, restrooms, classrooms and children's department.
Their ministry has included Marbury Baptist, Millbrook Baptist, Stave Creek Baptist, Excel Baptist, First Baptist of Flomaton and Mexia Baptist churches.
