Aggies win area title; prepare for Andalusia

The Jackson High School Aggies picked up two wins in the area tournament to win the 4A Area 1 crown.

Coach Marcus Caster's squad narrowly knocked off the Monroe County Tigers on Friday 64-63 after trailing by 10 at one point late in the contest. Demarcus Besteda led the Aggies with 23 points while Rashawn Boykin added 10 points. Grant White led the Tigers with 26 points.

On Monday night, Demarcus Besteda knocked home 17 points while B.J. Brown added 14. Redcardo Dread and Corey Besteda each scored 10 apiece to lead the Aggies to a 76-69 championship win over the Escambia County Blue Devils. Frank Taylor led the Blue Devils with 25 points while Kingston Craft poured in 19 points.

Jackson was down 48-36 midway through the third period, but fought back to take a 56-53 lead going into the fourth quarter. The Aggies were also able to pick up two momentum changing dunks, one by Demarcus Besteda and the other coming at the hands of Rashawn Boykin.

The Aggies (19-10) will play host to the Andalusia Bulldogs (17-7) on Friday night.

In the T.R. Miller-Andalusia game on Monday night, the Bulldogs took a 36-21 loss to the Tigers.

The winner of the subregional game will play at Troy University next week.

The Lady Aggies ended their season at Atmore on Thursday night in a 47-29 loss against Thomasville. Alexandra James led the girl's with 7 points while Kenya Martin paced Thomasville with 12 points.

The Lady Tigers went on to win the 4A Area 1 girl's crown by defeating Escambia County in the finals 57-56. The Tigers will play host to Andalusia while Miller will host the Lady Blue Devils.
