A traffic stop for speeding through a construction zone, Monday, ended with the arrest of four men who are now facing drug charges.

Jerome Gillmore, 34, of Salitpa, Steward Williams Jr., 34, of Louisville, Ky., Jayson L. Brown, 33, of Sandusky, Ohio and Marcus A. Brown, 31, of Louisville, Ky., were arrested after being stopped by Jackson Police Officer Jason Thomas near Stave Creek Baptist Church on Highway 69.

Thomas was working a construction zone at the bridge just south of the church when he stopped a tan Oldsmobile, driven by Gillmore, for speeding. The other three men were passengers in the vehicle.

When Thomas ran a check on Gillmore, he discovered there was a warrant for him for distribution of a controlled substance. He immediately called for backup and Officer Norman Jordan, Sgt. Willie Williams and Task Force One Agent Lem DuBose responded to the scene.

When officers asked Williams, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, to exit the automobile, they discovered two bags of marijuana between the front passenger seat and the door. A search of his person yielded an additional bag and $7,905 in cash. "He had 60 one hundred dollar bills of the money wrapped up in aluminum foil," said Thomas.

During a subsequent search of the vehicle, officers also found a black jacket, which contained a fourth bag of marijuana and two ecstasy pills.

Gillmore is facing a grand jury indictment on distribution of a controlled substance and was charged with first degree possession of marijuana and possession of a controlled substance.

The other three men were charged with first degree possession of marijuana. Officer Thomas said all four have extensive criminal backgrounds.

Agent DuBose said a total of 37.6 grams of marijuana was confiscated during the bust.

Jackson Police Chief Charles Burge commended the officers on their work in making the arrests. "If the confiscated money is cleared by the attorney general's office, it will be given to the drug task force," he said.
