WCHS shortstop signs with Faulkner State for softball
Coach Paul Jones said he was impressed with Godwin's character and ability on the playing field. "She is the type of kid that has character and loves to play the game," Jones said. "Ruth fits in the mold for our program. I would like to start her at short-stop or second base to start with at Faulkner." Godwin said she owes her parents and her coach special thanks for all the hard work and effort along the way. "I would like to thank my parents and other family members, but I especially want to thank my parents for being there for me because without them pushing me and helping me I would not be the athlete I am today," Godwin said. "I have had a lot of help along the way from Coach Wofford and I would like to thank him for everything he has done for me." Godwin started playing outfield for the Bulldogs when she started in junior high but became a shortstop for the Bulldogs as her skills quickly developed. "Ruth has been a strong leader and a hard worker for the team," Coach David Wofford said. "This is the goal for all the hard work she has endured." Godwin said she is excited about starting softball at the college level and can't wait to play this season for the Bulldogs.
"It takes a lot of determination and heart to earn something as great as this. I have put in a lot of hard work by playing ball during the summer and challenging myself in the gym," Godwin said. "I can't wait to kick off my last softball season at WCHS and really can't wait to play for Faulkner."
