Jackson teams place second at county The Jackson High School boys and girls grabbed second place in the Clarke County Tournament for 2007, held at Thomasville High School this past week. In ladies' action for the week, the Aggies fell to Thomasville in area play 60-32 on Tuesday, Jan 23. Raven Tiggs led the Aggies with 8 points. Kennya Martin paced the Tigers of Thomasville with 14 points. To start the tournament, the Lady Aggies defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Clarke County 41- 32. Johnneshia Donald knocked home 13 points for Jackson while Genesis Bernard and Alexandra James both added 10 points. Stephanie Robinson had 14 for Clarke County. In the championship of the Clarke County Tournament, Thomasville defeated the Jackson Aggies 49-34. Tiggs led the Aggies with 11 points while Ebony Early led Thomasville with 12 points. In boys' action, the Aggies defeated Thomasville on Jan. 23 in area action 68-60. DeMarcus Besteda led the Aggies with 19 points, while Recardo Dread added 9. points. T. Thomas led Thomasville with 20 points. In the first round of the Clarke County Tournament, Coach Marcus Caster's squad knocked off the Clarke County Bulldogs 60-56. Corey Besteda had 16 points while Demarcus Besteda had 15 points. Deforest Tate led Clarke County with 10 points. In the championship of the county tournament, Thomasville knocked off Jackson for the first time this season 62-56. Demarcus Besteda had 18 points while Corey Besteda added 12. T. Thomas led the Tigers with 18 points followed by D. Jackson with 14. In the second half of championship play, Jackson was charged with 10+ fouls while Thomasville was charged with only four. The Aggies (16-10, 6-0) play host to Hillcrest-Evergreen Friday and Clarke County on Saturday, before starting area tournament play next week.
Also, the Jackson High School basketball teams are presenting a basketball clinic in place of Upward Bound Basketball. Final sign-up dates will be at the home games against Hillcrest-Evergreen and Clarke County on Feb. 2 and 3.
