A rifle reported stolen from a Washington County residence in 1993 was recovered in Mississippi and will be returned to its rightful owner.

The Remington Woodmaster 30.06 semi-automatic rifle with scope was reported stolen by Lester Dearmon of Millry. It was allegedly taken during a burglary.

At the time the gun was reported stolen, its serial number was entered into the National Crime Information Center's (NCIC) database. "Once it's entered into the NCIC it stays there forever," said Washington County Sheriff's Department Captain Terry Beasley.

Beasley said the rifle was recovered by the Biloxi, Miss. Police Department and was found in the possession of a male and female who were arrested on theft of property charges. According to Capt. Beasley, the female has family connections in Millry.

Estimated value of the gun is approximately $300. Beasley said it would be returned to Dearmon once he files the appropriate paperwork.
