Leroy boys get back on track this past week

The Leroy Bears grabbed three big wins to get them back on track this week with wins over Bayside, Excel and Flomaton, the Bears are 3-1 in 2A Area 1 and have a chance to grab the area title if they can get wins on the road against Bayside and Flomaton. (SA photo by Bruce Hansen)
The Leroy Bears added three more wins to their totals to send them to 5-8 overall on the season.

The Bears started off with a huge 55-54 area win over the Flomaton Hurricanes. Charles Williams provided a layup within the last 10 seconds of the ball game to secure the victory. Williams also hit two treys late to bring the Bears back from a 7- point deficit. He led the Bears in scoring with 18 points, followed by Joe Fields with 12 and Jhared McCleary with 10. The Hurricanes were paced by Matt Rees with 16 points.

On Jan 12, Leroy grabbed another region win when the Excel Panthers came to town. Charles Williams had 18 points and Johnny Williams had 14 points to give the Bears the 63-57 win over Excel. Patrick Rivers also had 12 points in the winning effort. With this win, the Bears moved to 3-1 in 2A Area 1 play. Steven Brown paced the Panthers with 20 points.

On Saturday, Leroy got revenge on Sweet Water after being beaten by them earlier in the season. The Bears grabbed a 71-50 win over the Bulldogs. Charles Williams had 18 points for Leroy while brother Johnny Williams added 12. Sweet Water was led by Butch Williams with 12 points and Antonio Landrum with 10 points.

Leroy (5-8, 3-1) will travel to Flomaton on Thursday and to Washington County on Friday.
