Chris Beverly named new Clarke County Revenue Commissioner
"I'm very pleased to appoint Chris Beverly to this important position. He brings years of experience and community involvement to the office, and I know he will work hard to serve the people of Clarke County well," said Riley. Beverly has worked in the county revenue commissioner's Mapping and Appraisal office since 1981 as a property tax appraiser. He also has earned the designation of Alabama Certified Appraiser. Beverly is a member of the International Association of Assessing Officials and the Alabama Association of Assessing Officials, where he served on the joint committee on education for two years. Beverly said, "I look forward to serving. I do understand many aspects of the office but it will be a different view from the commissioner's office." Beverly said he did not know if he will seek election to a full term in 2008 nor did he know what political party he would run under if he is a candidate. "I'm not trying to evade the question. I really don't know right now," he explained. He said he would be as fair as the law allows and looks forward to working with people. Beverly is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilmer Beverly of Thomasville. He is a 1980 graduate of Auburn University and an avid Tiger fan and active in AU alumni events. He is a member of the Grove Hill Civitan Club, has volunteered with Special Olympics, and has served as president of the Clarke County Historical Society since 1994. As president of the historical society he works closely with the Clarke County Museum and other efforts to preserve and promote the county's history.
He is also a member of the Thomasville United Methodist Church.
