A crowd gathered
at the Washington County Courthouse, Sunday, Jan. 7, to witness the swearing in
of the county's new probate judge Charles Singleton.
The oath of office was administered by his sister-inlaw, Shirley V.
Singleton, who is a notary public.
"I thank God for allowing me to be born in Washington County," said Singleton
in his opening remarks after being sworn in. "I have been a lot of places and
have seen a lot of things, but I am always glad to come back home. As one of 13
siblings, family has always meant a lot to me."
Concerning his plans as the new probate judge, Singleton said, "The rules
apply to everyone. My promise as probate judge will be to serve with commitment,
honor, devotion to duty and ethics. We will have a plan. Everybody will be
treated with dignity and respect and the rules will apply equally to everyone."
Singleton concluded by saying that he will be open to trying to do things in
different ways while working for the betterment of the county. He thanked
everyone who attended Sunday's ceremony and invited them to stay for
refreshments and fellowship.
