By Kay Crosby Local Nutritionist

LaKesha Dixon (left) prepares to roll the dice for a chance to win a new car during the 'Get Lost in Jackson' weight loss program, while program director Kay Crosby explains the rules. Dixon lost the most weight during the 2006 get fit initiative, dropping 104 pounds. Signup for "Get Lost in Jackson 2007" is currently under way. Get Lost in Jackson ended with a bang and has attracted local, statewide and national attention to all the participants, sponsors, "weigh-ers" and weigh stations.

If for some reason you didn't finish in 2006, then there is another opportunity for you to "Get Lost" in 2007. This year there will be only two public weigh stations. Jackson Family Pharmacy will serve as one and HealthActions will be the other, Boise will also serve as a weigh station for employees.

Weighing in and registering began Jan. 9, but will continue through Jan. 25. I've talked to so many people this year who intended to sign up but let the days slip past them and then it was too late.

Our 2007 Get Lost in Jackson Program will have something for everyone. There will be 5 different categories in which to participate in.

1. "Maintenance Club": You must be in the Healthy Weight Range on the BMI scale [19- 24]. You must maintain your original weight and not exceed that weight by more than 2 pounds by Dec. 5.

2. "Lose 1 to 10 Club": You must be within 10 pounds of reaching the Healthy Weight range on the BMI scale [19-24] You MUST register the pounds you need to lose to get to that range and reach that goal by Dec. 5.

3. "Age 50-plus Club": You must be age 50 or more and be at the lowest weight for moderate risk on the BMI scale. If you need to lose less than 10 percent to reach that 27 BMI score then you MUST register the pounds you need to lose to get to that range and reach that goal by Dec. 5

4. "10 Percent Club": You must need to lose at least 10 percent or more of your original weight to get to a healthier weight to register for this program. You will be required to lose 10 percent of your weight by Dec. 5.

5. "2 out of 3 Club": Men that workout can register for this new program ONLY at HealthActions. We will be using three assessments to monitor this: body fat, waist to hip ratio, and BMI. You must be in a healthy range in two out of three of these health assessments. Body Fat for your age at "good" waist to hip ratio>0.95 for men and >0.8 for women and BMI of 24 or less. You will be required to reach two out of three by Dec. 5.

There will be monthly drawings for $100 and the end of the year prizes and surprises!

Have fun developing healthy lifestyles and becoming more fit. Remember; by losing 10 percent of your body weight risk of diabetes and heart disease is reduced by 60 percent. Best of all, this is free to you. We are looking forward to seeing less of you in 2007.
