Two people were injured in a rear-end collision that occurred Tuesday, around 8:30 a.m., in front of L.A. Powersports and Tack & Rack on Highway 43 just north of the Jackson city limits.

According to Jackson Police Officer Jonathan Downey, who investigated the crash, Susan Melinda Kelley, 45, of Grove Hill, was the driver of a 1998 BMW Z-3, that struck the rear of an older model Ford pickup, driven by Larry W. McReynolds, 54, of Jackson, who had stopped in the left northbound lane to make a left-hand turn into the business.

According to Downey, both drivers sustained what were believed to be non-life threatening injuries and were transported to Jackson Medical Center by JETS ambulance. The officer said neither of the occupants were wearing seat belts. He estimated Kelley’s speed at around 65 mph when she struck McReynolds’ vehicle, which was loaded with rock.

Members of the Jackson Fire Department also responded to the scene and assisted with removing the crash victims from each vehicle and cleanup of the debris from the highway.
