God can accept the plea of even the worst of us
I am praying that the same God who made you and me will be merciful to him and give him a quick end. It is more than I can say of what I heard he did to some whom he watched die. I can easily want to cheer and hate the no-good so and so. Notice: I said, "I can easily...", because hate is easy. It is so definitive; so black and white. I can easily transpose all of the stuff in my life to Saddam and say, "Adios. We will be glad when you are gone, you devil you.” I'll let you in on another little known fact of my faith: I am praying for the darkness in our lives, what some folks call "the devil". I am praying that Saddam will have time to reflect on the atrocities that made up his life. The atrocities he perpetrated on other people and the atrocities put upon him that made up his youth. I am hoping that before the one and only God he is now asking for understanding and yes, forgiveness. I am hoping that he can see that the path to death was paved a long way before now, by greed, lust for power, arrogance and the most horrible sin of all, playing the role of god before God. I am praying also for those of us who, like me, secretly want him to die. God help us, because we have a hard time seeing the Saddam in each of us. We are arrogant! We are prideful! We lust for that which we cannot have and should not obtain. The list goes on and on and on.... It is because of the deep, dark secrets that harbor within each of us that Jesus had to come into the world. The "Light of Lights" exposes darknesses. Deep secrets are exposed before the risen King of kings and Lord of lords. He is and will forever be, our companion, our judge, our advocate and our guide, all in one. Do we stand condemned before Him? Yes!...and No! He comes not to condemn, but to call home. He judges and He sets all things straight- -as they should be. One of the things that make Christians so nutty to the other peoples of the world is this crazy idea that God can forgive fully. God can accept the plea of even the worst of us. Even a Hitler. Even a Stalin. Even a Saddam. As crazy as it sounds friends, I ask you, in the name of the Living God, to hear the words of Jesus as found in the Sermon on the Mount.
[Matthew 5:1-7:27] Tonight, in private with the Lord, pray for Saddam.
