Pistol whipping suspect arrested in Prestwick
A man accused of pistol whipping a Zimco man in Coffeeville on Thanksgiving was arrested in the north Washington County community of Prestwick on state and federal charges.
Reginald E. Williams, who police say sometimes resides in Coffeeville and at other times in Prestwick, was arrested Nov. 30, following the execution of a search warrant by agents from the First Judicial Drug Task Force (Task Force One), and officers from the Coffeeville, Jackson and McIntosh police departments.
According to Task Force One Agent Blane Barnett the agency was asked to assist in apprehending Williams by Coffeeville Police Chief Clint Harrell.
Harrell said Williams allegedly pistol whipped Fraisier Edgar Jr., 26, of Zimco at a Coffeeville residence on Pine Brook Drive sometime between 8- 9:30 p.m., Nov. 22. Edgar reportedly received several stitches in his head as a result of the beating. The chief said the circumstances which led to the incident are still unclear.
Agent Barnett said information was received Friday that Williams, who was also wanted on federal warrants for two counts of unlawful distribution of cocaine, was at a residence in Prestwick. He, along with Agent Lem DuBose, Chief Harrell, Jackson Police Officer Ben Marshall with his canine and McIntosh Police Chief Mike Barnett, executed a search warrant for the pistol allegedly used in the beating around 2:30 p.m.
When officers arrived at the Prestwick Road residence, Barnett said Williams was in the back of the house and started to run from officers, but quickly changed his mind. Although the pistol was not located during a search of the residence, officers did locate a small amount of powder cocaine.
Williams was taken into custody, charged with possession of a controlled substance and booked into the Washington County Jail on $10,000 bond. He was also held for federal authorities.
